The history of the square is very interesting. It was originally founded in 1870 by architects of the Russian Empire as the central park of New Tashkent and was named Konstantin Square. Since then, the monument in the center of the square has been changed several times. The first was a monument to Governor-General Kaufman, which in 1917 was replaced by a monument to Free Workers, a monument to the tenth anniversary of the Great October Revolution (1927), a monument to Stalin (1947), a monument to Karl Marx (1968). Since 1993, a monument to Amir Temur has stood in the center of the square. Bronze equestrian monument to Tamerlane, a great statesman and commander of the Middle Ages, one of the founders of Uzbek statehood, designed to ideologically consolidate society around the great achievements of his ancestors.
