Once a year, the Niesen Staircase Race is held on Niesen Mountain, and it consists of a high-speed climb up the stairs next to the funicular. The staircase is called "Nizenlauf". It was built in 1910 and officially entered into the Guinness Book of Records, as it is considered the longest in the world, it has as many as 11674 steps. The staircase is technical, built for the maintenance of the lift, but once a year, upon pre-registration on the website, it is open to athletes. The staircase starts at an altitude of 700 meters and ends at an altitude of 2363 meters above sea level, its length is 1663 meters.
