The historical fortress is of amazing beauty. It is very large, but now the restored walls remain only in the castle on the hill, and only fragments remain on the territory of the city. The entrance to the fortress itself is free and you can enter from different sides, go in and see the beautiful cathedral and walk along the picturesque streets. But climbing the wall and entering the Chateau Comtal is already paid. The route starts from the ticket office. I recommend walking around the fortress wall, as there are wonderful panoramas of the surroundings, the city and the towers. But also walking along the wall from below, you can see the power of medieval walls and take a lot of cool photos.

A gorgeous medieval castle. It's like being in a fairy tale movie. Walls, towers, moat - everything is flat. Inside the building is a large Gothic cathedral with stained glass windows and gargoyles. 👍

The castle of the Cathars in Carcassonne, 53 towers, huge and thick walls. The walls run in many rows, forming a heavily fortified monastery, with streets for living.

An interesting place. They lived in a city under a wall. They were afraid to take a hotel in the fortress, it was unclear how to park. Although, in principle, everything is solvable. It's great to walk around the fortress at night. The feeling of falling into the Middle Ages.

One of the largest medieval fortresses preserved in excellent condition and maintained in this condition. In January, the evening was sparsely populated, which made Gothic gargoyles and soaring flocks of ravens create a feeling of superstitious fear.

We drove a car along the route - Lloret De Mar - Narbon - Carcassonne and back. I liked the square and the shops near the fortress. We visited the fortress. I really liked everything. I recommend it!

A medieval fortress town in the south of France.
2500 years of history, from the guide's story I remember only the heroic actions of Madame Carcass against the army of Charlemagne.
Now it is a tourist Mecca, beautifully restored under the direction of architect Eugene Viollet-le-Duc.
There are many shops and restaurants. We even met a Russian-speaking hostess in one souvenir shop.
There is a completely unique welcoming aura there, although it would seem from where?
Maybe from the sweet pronunciation of Bonjour from every door?)
