Paris Gare de l'est railway Station, one of the oldest and most important railway junctions in France, was opened in 1849 as the terminus of the line to Strasbourg and gradually turned into a large complex from where the eastern direction of the French railways goes. Its neoclassical facade with characteristic arcades and sculptural decorations reflects the ambitions of the Industrial Revolution era, when railways became a symbol of technological progress. In 1885, the building was significantly expanded to increase passenger traffic. The modern complex looks inside more like a department store than a train station. Yes, trains leave here and there are few places where you can buy food for the trip and drink drinks. But these places are unfairly few compared to the compartments for the sale of industrial goods. There are a lot of shops here that are not related to the railway station at all. There are very few places to sit on the road, they are located on the platform, where everything is blown through and people are cold. There are no such places to wait for the train in the warmth at all, unless you are a business class 1st class passenger, because with a regular first class ticket you will not get to a special waiting room where it is warm and you can drink hot tea or coffee. There is only one cafe at the station where you can order hot second courses and eat from the table. And this cafe is full, there are no seats available. Other food stands are located in cold, drained spaces, so in winter, dress warmly when you go to this station, it is the least comfortable and convenient of all the stations in Paris. There are a lot of people at the station, because the organization of passage to some trains is difficult because they announce the way where the train will be located only 20-30 minutes before departure and the passage to the trains is conducted through ticket scanning counters, which do not work very well and therefore huge queues gather. Due to such problems, many passengers manage to get into their cars literally in the last minutes.
