A very beautiful place! A picturesque fortress surrounded by mountains on the shore of a reservoir!!! There are a lot of friendly dogs on the territory. However, we were still very lucky with the weather))

The fortress is excellent. But the parking situation is very unclear. I'm explaining. The entrance to the parking lot is through a speed bump equipped with hedgehogs for piercing wheels - that is, you can only enter through it, you can not leave. Exit through the barrier on the other side. Prices in the 24th for a passenger car are 3 GEL. It turned out that when I entered the parking lot, I realized that I did not have time to inspect the fortress and had to move on, that is, I just wanted to drive through the parking lot without stopping. A local employee refused to let me out for free. There is always the first 5-10-15 minutes of free parking everywhere. There is no. At the same time, it is not clear what exactly the money is being taken for - parking, it is just the territory adjacent to the fortress. I tried to explain this to the employee, in response to screaming, hysteria, rudeness, name-calling. In general, a strange reaction to a strange situation. Park the cars opposite, on the other side of the road. And be careful if you meet such speed bumps who are set up for one-way travel and can puncture the wheels.

You can climb the tower, walk along the walls of the fortress, take a bunch of cool photos. When the reservoir is full-flowing, turquoise water will be added to the species. There is a spontaneous market nearby, it does not decorate the place, but you can buy souvenirs. Admission is free, but there is a paid toilet and parking.

The fortress is located on the Georgian Military Road, 70 km from Tbilisi - where the small Vedzathevi River flows into Aragvi. It was built in the XVI century and over the next two centuries served as the northern outpost of the defense of Transcaucasia, closing the road leading from the Daryal gorge. The fortress was the residence of the Aragva feudal lords, the princes of Eristavi, who played a prominent role in the political life of Eastern Georgia in the XVII century. Behind the formidable stone bastions of the medieval castle, behind the powerful battlements, the religious buildings of that time were located. During the attacks, the fortress covered the retreat to the mountains of local residents and the population of the central part of the country. It also played a significant role in the first half of the XIX century, after the annexation of Georgia to Russia. At first, a Russian garrison was constantly stationed here, guarding the main road connecting Georgia with Russia and maintaining order in the region. In 1812, the highlanders rebelled, but they failed to capture the fortress. Reinforcements sent from Tiflis brutally suppressed the uprising. Later, Ananuri served as a stronghold for Russian troops for some time. It was even supposed to build a military camp here, a project was developed, which for some reason was never implemented. The fortress walls with round towers, two temples (the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin and the Church of Christ the Savior), the bell tower and the main quadrangular tower, which is reached by a spiral staircase, have survived to our times. It turns out to be a very beautiful photo, but since 2024, the price of parking for cars has become 3 lari, as well as on the monument of Friendship of Peoples. To save money, you can stop on the opposite side of the road. There is a toilet, the price is 1 GEL, in theory you can go down by car to the river, but this is for an amateur. I recommend it for atmospheric photos with Georgian landscapes.

A small and very interesting historical object on the shore of the Zhinvali reservoir. At the end (if you go from the border) On the Georgian Military Road, you can stop, warm up, and join the history of Georgia.
Parking is paid (passenger 3lari), but there is enough free space on the opposite side of the road and at the local exit.
The monastery is very small. All buildings are located very locally. The temple is functioning.
The road goes down to the right of the monastery. It leads to the beach. There are water attractions, toilets, cafes.

It's beautiful, but for once, everything is destroyed, in some kind of neglect. Car parking is 3 GEL, and entrance to the fortress is free. If you go down from the fortress to the reservoir, then it is much more interesting here))) it's nice to walk, admire nature, turquoise water. You can have a picnic if you take food with you. Playgrounds have been arranged for children, they liked it much more there than at the fortress itself. The way back up the mountain is very difficult in the heat.

We stopped by car on the way from Lars. The fortress stands along the highway. Parking is paid, 3 GEL. but you can park your car across the street for free. We took a walk and looked at the beauties. Well, what can I tell you about this place. It's nothing special. We drove up to it along the lower road, where the beach is by the reservoir. Like a local type. And tourists usually stop at the top, where there is a paid parking lot operated by some smart Georgians. There is no crowd at the bottom, there is Parking, but you will have to go up the hill to the entrance.
The fortress itself is in a "dusty" condition, but it seems like it is being restored little by little. But this is not accurate. If someone wants to take a beautiful photo, then it is better to do it from the bridge on the highway, because there is nowhere to turn around inside. (I am attaching an example). Admission is free. It seems to me that if they charge money for the inspection, then no one will definitely go there.

The place leaves a positive response. But everything is kind of unattended.
There is a market nearby, but we were not very happy when we realized that we were from Russia. They didn't say anything bad, but there was rejection and they stopped communicating.
Parking is paid, but there are a couple of places along the road. Entrance to the fortress is free. But we liked it better down by the water.
If you walk around, you can find many beautiful landscapes. You can take a camera and take a lot of good shots. You can also have a picnic by the water.
