The Alexander Nevsky Chapel is located near the pedestrian crossing to the sea. It's a shame that in Soviet times the chapel was adapted as a ticket office for water walks, and now it's closed altogether. If you look inside through the window, you will see only garbage. But this is the history of Orthodoxy. I really want to believe that in the near future the chapel will reopen to the Orthodox people and will welcome and accompany travelers.

The whole life that we drive is closed. There is a collapse inside and no repairs are expected. In general, the chapel is small, it is not so difficult to make repairs. I wonder what explains this condition of the chapel? Is it a conflict again? So the enemies did not touch her.

The Chapel of Our Lady of Iver was built in 1888, in memory of the visit of Emperor Alexander III and his family to New Athos. He arrived in the city on September 24th (October 6 to the present day) 1888, at 11:00, on the cruiser "Moscow", accompanied by the sailboat "Memory of Mercury", to participate in the laying of the first stone during the construction of the Cathedral of St. Panteleimon of the New Athos Monastery and visited the Church of the Intercession of the Virgin and the temple Simone Kananita. As gifts, Emperor Alexander lII presented the monastery with musical chimes for the bell tower in the center of the western building, a steam locomotive for the monastery railway and a power plant. In a note, I note that the idea of establishing a monastic brotherhood in Transcaucasia belongs to the monks of the Russian Panteleimon Monastery on Old Athos in Greece. They implemented their idea with the help of Grand Duke Mikhail Nikolaevich Romanov, governor of the Caucasus (the last of the four sons of Nicholas I). It was he who ordered the allocation of land in the Sukhumi district for the estate and grounds of the New Athos Monastery. The Imperial family preferred to walk that day. In memory of the visit, the monks planted cypresses along the way of the king's movement. Now, the section of the royal family's path is called "Tsarskaya Alley". The royal family stayed in New Athos for 12 hours. Exactly at At 23:00 hours, they continued their journey across the Caucasus on a cruiser. In Soviet times, the chapel ceased to operate and fell into disrepair. After a symbolic restoration, in 2000, the chapel was rededicated in honor of Alexander Nevsky (patron saint of Alexander I, Il and Ill). I am attaching a photograph of the chapel from 1900 and a photograph of a painting depicting the chapel from 1905 so that the quality of the restoration can be assessed. It has been a long time, but currently, the chapel is still not operational.
