The temple is tiny on the outside and spacious on the inside. Very bright, thanks to the large number of windows. Carpets are laid on the floor and therefore people move around the temple quietly. The icons in the temple are mostly all new. The most revered is the Myrrh-streaming face of the Holy Martyr Demetrius of Thessalonica . There are baptismal fonts near the temple in order to take a dip. The water is very cold, as it should be) previously there was a monastery here, which was closed in Soviet times and a collective farm was located on the territory. There is almost nothing left of the buildings where the cells were once located. The main building belonging to the church was converted into a prison. It is the only functioning prison in Abkhazia that still exists. This is such a strange neighborhood.

A very old Orthodox church of Byzantine architecture, built as early as the 6th century. By the way, it is one of the first temples built in Abkhazia.
There is incredible beauty inside: panoramic windows, ancient frescoes are still preserved on the walls. Inside, it is salted and peaceful. I didn't want to leave...
there are also women's and men's fonts on the territory. I didn't plan to take a dip, because I didn't have a swimsuit with me, but once inside, I changed my mind. The water is no colder than on Epiphany, and besides, as a believer, I have nothing to worry about, the Almighty will protect and preserve. As a result, I plunged 3 times and such lightness immediately came, all internal mental worries and worries went away, my soul became warm and calm, like in a temple. One of the oldest temples in Abkhazia. It looks like a rather modest building, but inside there is a large-scale religious beauty! They were impressed by icons of one and a half human height. Among them are several myrrh-streaming ones that you can attach yourself to. A well-groomed green area with the holy spring of Nikita Besogon and fonts. The child and I took a dip - blissfully.. Perhaps this is my favorite temple in Abkhazia. I have been here 3 times in different years and I would like to come there again. A heavenly place!

It is a very beautiful temple.
The Drand Cathedral was built presumably in the VI—VII centuries. In the Middle Ages, it served as the residence of bishops. During the Turkish yoke, the temple suffered great damage, but it was restored.
In 1880, a monastery was established at the cathedral, which was closed in 1928.
It is now well restored. Fragments of ancient masonry can be seen, they were specially left - here, indeed, in the literal sense, you can touch the centuries-old history
Initially, the walls and ceiling were completely painted, but until our time, the ancient frescoes, alas, have almost not been preserved.
There are few icons, the most revered among them is the myrrh-streaming face of the Holy Martyr Demetrius of Thessalonica (considered healing from ailments).
There is also a spring on the territory of the monastery - in honor of the Holy Great Martyr, warrior Nikita Besogon. The depth is 58 meters. A font is equipped (male and female are separated). The water, besides being the purest, is very tasty.

Dranda Cathedral of the Assumption of the Mother of God (Abkhazia, Dranda). Visited in September 2024.
The cathedral was partially plastered and painted white. But they left part of the walls in their original form, preserving the original brickwork for viewing. Temples, churches, cathedrals are a small piece of history that has hardly reached our time, of course you want to see and touch the history. Like many such structures, it has been looted, destroyed and restored many times. When we went inside, we were a little surprised that almost all the wall paintings had been lost. Now the temple is filled with very beautiful icons. This adds its own zest to it, at the entrance there are handkerchiefs, those who do not have with them and do not want to take common ones can buy, just like candles, I took a candle for health, on the eve there was a fire in the candlestick, no need to light from other candles, there were also matches and it was filled with sand, just You light it and put a candle on. You can buy church literature, a chain and a cross, it's convenient, I came to baptize everything in place at your fingertips, you don't need any outside shops. The territory near the temple is well maintained, trees are planted. I liked everything, the only unpleasant moment was, next to the temple there is a building that was a hospital, now there is a prison and when we walked around the territory near the temple, club music was playing loudly from the prison :(((

Yes, 4 stars... I'm one of those people who still don't understand how you can sell something in a church. And anyway, I'm a strange person in this regard. I don't like such places, because I think God is in the heart, but definitely not in the buildings. Now I will return to this temple. At the entrance, as expected, I put on a handkerchief (although to this day I do not understand why this is necessary, but this is not the point). The temple is divided, as I understand it, into two parts. In the first part of the room there is a store (supermarket of various books, icons, candles, magazines). Naturally, I didn't like it. In general, I believe that Divine books, Bibles, and pamphlets should be given (I do not want and will not buy faith - this is wrong). But I walked around and looked at everything anyway. There are a lot of interesting things. Then there was a hall (where they pray, they put candles. Do not judge strictly, but I do not know what it is called). I just looked in there, but I didn't go in. It is undeniably beautiful. But such places are not for me.
I advise people who seek God in churches and temples to visit this temple. You will definitely like it.

Everything there breathes antiquity and peace. When you enter the territory, you even breathe differently. Fruit trees were planted, I watched how children watered them.
