It is a very interesting place, I definitely recommend everyone to come and see it. In my opinion, it is one of the best attractions in the region. Excellent preservation, mementos for each significant object and just a beautiful view will not leave any lover of ancient architecture indifferent.
Entrance is paid - 10 GEL per adult, which is quite reasonable to maintain such a place that remembers almost the last 2000 years

A unique, damn old fortress, dating back to the Roman Empire. There is always a parking place around, an adequate cost of visiting, everything is conveniently organized inside. A separate feature is the abundance of various fruit trees on the territory. Of course, it is better not to visit in the heat.

Gonio Fortress is an interesting historical place. There are archaeological excavations and a museum on site. The well-groomed territory with beautiful flowers creates a pleasant atmosphere. Inside the fortress, you can see various antiques in a mini-museum. There is also a small chapel, ruins and other interesting sites to explore.

The fortress is an amazing place! It is perfectly preserved, it is one of the most ancient and largest fortresses in Georgia. Time it for about an hour or even more to admire every corner and detail. Entry is allowed even with medium dogs, which is also a big plus. I highly recommend you to visit! Entrance fee is 10 GEL

The price is 10 GEL. It is located 20min drive from Batumi. The fortress itself, with almost nothing inside, a couple of excavations and a packed camp. For a 30-minute walk. It is possible that events may be installed from time to time. As a lover of castles, I liked it. It's worth a visit:)

A cool place with a history, the fortress was built by the Romans, I highly recommend you to visit. The price of the entrance ticket is purely symbolic, to get from the center of Batumi 10-12 GEL by taxi.

We visited the fortress in March 2024. We liked it. History. Excavations. Atmosphere. Photography is allowed for free. We took a few photos in a flamenco costume and even danced on the track. I made myself a birthday present. 💃🏻I thank the staff for the warm welcome. (There is a toilet at the exit. There are benches to sit and relax) Be sure to come and see the historical fortress!

The fortress is interesting from a historical point of view. There are a lot of restrictions. There are barriers on the wall, you can't get to photogenic places. On the site of the excavation. It looks like they're not digging anymore. A stylized Roman camp, heavily stylized. There are not many historical artifacts in the museum. The coins were generally taken away "for restoration."
There is a fountain with water, a toilet. 10 GEL is too much.

Gonio Fortress was built in the 1st century AD. It can be said that it has been standing since the time of Jesus Christ. It has a square shape and is well restored. We visited it in 2018 and 2023 and noted that there were more flowers, exhibits, cleaner and more well-groomed territory. The entrance costs 5 lari ~ 200r. There are few people inside, there is a fountain with drinking water and a large Parking lot nearby. Since ancient times, fortresses were built with towers so that they could hide from the enemy. In the Bible, a strong tower is compared to God, as he is the most reliable protection for people. "The name of Jehovah is a strong tower. The righteous man flees into it and finds protection" (Proverbs 18:10). Literal structures are destroyed over time, and God, his support and protection are eternal. It is good that the Gonio fortress is being preserved and restored for future descendants, I recommend visiting it and taking a quiet walk along the ancient walls.

Admission in August 2023 is 8lari for adults. The toilet is wonderful on site. Required to visit)) A beautiful central alley, at the far end of the fortress is a reconstruction of wooden medieval weapons. Several excavation sites and the restored perimeter of the fortress. In general, it is not a mandatory place to visit. But this is my strictly personal opinion.

The fortress of the 1st century, but the walls can be seen that they were reconstructed. Inside there is a very beautiful and well-groomed territory, roses are blooming, but there is nothing else. You can walk around the perimeter, climb the walls. There are excavations of very old walls. And a very old plumbing system.
On the territory of the fortress there is a symbolic grave of the apostle Matthew, the one from whom the Gospel is one of the 4. He preached in these places. Symbolic - because according to several sources, he was buried on the territory of the Gonio fortress.
Opening hours are 10-18, in summer from 10-19. An adult ticket is 8 lari, up to 16 years old - 2 lari.

A small but beautiful fortress. The roses are planted awesome. There are many southern fruit trees. But an hour is enough for an eye examination.
There is a gorgeous empty beach right in front of the fortress. And not far away, closer to the Turkish border, there is a cool waterfall. St. Andrew the First-Called, in my opinion.

I definitely recommend going to just a unique structure, especially the ancient Roman excavation of underfloor heating was etched into my memory. For me, it was just a discovery, and the perfect preservation of the entire infrastructure that supported the life of the Roman legionnaires is a very interesting story and many interesting educational exhibits
