The impressive 13.5 m high structure is one of the most interesting historical monuments in Antalya. The tower was erected by the Romans in the southern part of the bay presumably in the II century AD, and probably played the role of a lighthouse, as well as performed defensive functions. It is believed that the tower was used as a tomb for the family of one of the important Roman officials.
