Naturally, it is better to swim through the canyon, for the fullness of sensations, and do not save money on wetsuits, they smooth out the temperature difference, they are much more comfortable.
We walked through the canyon from the place where the buggy was thrown against the current to the cafes and back, then we decided to explore the part of the canyon where no one walks, there is a small waterfall that you can fully plunge into, we got just in the rain. In general, we got a lot of sensations!

One of the most beautiful canyons in Abkhazia. The nature is fascinating! The route is not very long, but it is extreme in places, you need to be careful! The mountain water is icy and the rocks are very slippery, so you need to bring swimsuits and comfortable shoes. Khashupse Canyon in Abkhazia is a natural landmark located in the valley of the Khashupse River. Fabulous landscapes and rocky massifs, colorful gorges and hanging vegetation, the purest river that fills the river… Beauty and relaxation!
We were in October, in the morning - there were no people, we took sap, laughed heartily, the best attraction in Abkhazia.

We were in the canyon in October. We took rafting on boots along the canyon. The descent to the canyon by car was perhaps the most extreme adventure in Abkhazia. Hotel respect to the driver of this UAZ for nerves of steel! We waded through the canyon itself against the current for 15-20 minutes, then sailed with our boots downstream for 2-3 minutes. Of course, we haven't been bred yet)))) It was an expectation/reality tour. But the photos are certainly spectacular!

When I saw a photo of a friend from the canyon, I thought it was right somewhere very far away, abroad. Well, it turned out that it was very close, in Abkhazia, and, of course, we could not help but visit such beauty. Be sure to wear aquashoos for walking through the canyon. We were in early September, and despite the fact that I can't stand cold water, it turned out to be quite comfortable there. This is a place I would love to visit again.

A very interesting place, the canyon itself is about 300 meters.
You can walk to it from two sides.
The first one is closer to the sea, where they take 300 rubles / person to the bugs (I haven't been there).
The second one is farther away by navigator, 43.425147, 40.135435 here we left the car, there are many places for cars, a small village and a new cafe (I did not go in), then we went down to the river, crossed two streams and on the way we get to the lower cafe where UAZs park and take money for passage to the canyon itself (of course payment is required, in cash, without a receipt 🤣) however, we took things for storage in bulk right in the cafe. The cafe offers SAPs without fins and podsutye (do not steer) 1000₽/hour
In the cafe, of course, the gazebos are simple and the menu is small.
From the cafe, you have to go along the Hashupse river somewhere along the river, somewhere along the river 300 meters to the canyon. The water is very cold on 1.08.2024, but tolerable for adults. I strongly recommend not to freeze children. The water is up to my throat in several places, I had to swim once, there is a fallen tree that needs to be overcome.
The cafe offered to lift us to the car for 2000 rubles / UAZ, but we walked calmly without straining without their services.

It's an overrated place. It is good to visit when the temperature outside is 40 degrees +. Then it will be cool and comfortable in the canyon for walking / swimming. We were at + 25/27, the water + 16 cools at once. There are photos on the web where people walk with children along the river, we did not take the risk. There is a hiking trail. My wife and children looked at the canyon from it, walked along the river. It's good that a friend took the sap, we got to it in the opposite direction. It's cold enough in the water, there are places where you need to swim. It's a pity for those people who came into the canyon from the opposite side, we went where the cafe, buggy, saps. They mostly walked, there is no trail there, and they had to walk back in the opposite direction and against the current.

There are places where I was up to my neck. My height is 167cm. . Of course, special shoes are needed. Otherwise, you will not be able to walk along the river. Solid cobblestones, rocks. Slippery. The local cafe is disgusting. Just to drink tea to keep warm. Then you go out onto the highway and there will be a wonderful apathy.

The second option. Take the road further into the mountains. Before the fork, follow the sign to turn left. After a fork of about 3 km along a new road through the forest. The old road along the river became inaccessible after a landslide in the spring of 2024
From above, most often, you will be taken with pleasure to the place on the UAZ and not only, because in 2 places you need to drive the river to the ford
The site at the junction of 2 rivers will provide you with hydro suits and waterproof phone cases. It is better not to belittle either one or the other, but of course you can do without
All the way to the canyon, you need to walk through a gorge somewhere knee-deep in water. It is better to choose shoes that are not afraid of immersion in cold water
The water in the river is mountainous and you will have to plunge into it up to your throat in the canyon, or even deeper. According to this, a hydro suit will be useful)

If you are traveling by car, it is better to arrive around 9 o'clock, so there will be fewer people when we went back, excursions arrived and there was a crowd, and those who took sap boards did not swim. You can book an excursion, or you can get to a certain place by car, and then walk through the forest for about 1.5 km at a leisurely pace and enjoy nature.

This time we were in a car.
Pointers are everywhere. And at the turn of the highway from Tsandripsh, and after the village.
We walked down for 200 rubles on foot. To the canyon.
I went in barefoot, and I will say that the water is 6-8 degrees Celsius, no more.
It's a very good trail.

It's a miracle of nature, it's hard to surprise me, I travel a lot, but this canyon is in the heart. It's like another world. The water is very cold, but it is everywhere in such places. It's deep in places, you should swim, but literally 5 meters, several times, I advise you to at least take a circle.
I would not recommend it with small children, but it is individual, everyone knows for himself what is best for his family and kids. We were on our own and I saw how the children were either carried on their shoulders or on a mattress, few people reached the end, they turned around, as the children were very cold. They even cried, and my parents urged me to move on.
If you are in your car, we were in a sedan, we arrived ourselves, we left it in the parking lot and 20 minutes on foot. I strongly advise you to go as early as possible, we arrived there were 5 people, we were walking back and this is just a nightmare, there are a lot of people

We visited this place with friends this year. We drove our car and walked another kilometer and a half from the parking lot to the beginning of the canyon. Who has four-wheel drive can get to the place. Eco fee is 200 rubles per person. Organized rental of sap boards, wetsuits, phone cases, there is a cafe. It is better to take cash, but WiFi will be distributed for payment. We had our own saps, so we saved money. Now about the icon. A place of unlikely beauty. We've been to a lot of places and seen beautiful places, but this is a very, very beautiful place. I recommend anyone who will be in Abkhazia to visit this place. This is the most beautiful thing I have seen in Abkhazia!
A gorge with a length of five hundred meters along the bottom of which flows a mountain river with rapids and depth differences.
The entire route can be completed on foot or on horseback. We chose the second one, and it was the right decision. There have been rains recently, the river has risen and the depth in some places reached the armpits. Considering the water temperature is about ten degrees, this is quite a quest. But it's definitely worth it, because at the end of the route a fairy tale awaited us - a narrow passage in the rocks, resting right into the blue sky - it's very beautiful!
And if you are going to wear non-slip shoes that fit snugly on your foot, the current is so strong that it takes away the flip-flops like it's not a good thing to do. I found different options on the bottom myself. And there were even corals. Yes, and the phone is in a protective case around the neck, if you drop it, it will take away two times.

In the first cafe, where the first big signpost, they did not go down, imposing both the suit and the sap, and the road and everything, and if you just go in, you will not go to the most beautiful places. And if you drive further towards a small canyon, there will be another sign, there you can go down in your car, but you still can't get to it, you need to cross two streams. We left the car at the sign, a peasant drove up to us on a UAZ, told us everything and we did not regret that we went with him. It cost 1000 rubles one way. The shoes there at the cafe were picked up from forgotten or lost ones, which, by the way, this peasant told me about. We went through everything without suits and boots and did not freeze and did not regret it. The heat was about 30 degrees.

The exit from the highway is unremarkable, the road is unpaved, but it will not be difficult to get through.
There are 2 entrances:
1 near- black banner to the left- 200 rubles per entrance , there is a service of descent-ascent to the river, wetsuits, saps. The descent is 500 meters, it seems that it is steep, but in general it is fine. There's nowhere to leave things downstairs, so we change upstairs. We go down and go upstream through the canyon to another exit, then back. We walked in wetsuits, sneakers, it was comfortable. Most of them were in swimsuits...I felt sorry for the people, the water was cold, steam was coming out of my mouth in the canyon...therefore, at this time of the year it is better to take either a sap (but still someone needs to be in the water periodically) or a wetsuit. But here everyone decides for himself)
2 entrance- further down the road for about 4 km, further along the clearing through the river, we did not go..There was a big stone lying there...the probability of hitting is high, as they realized there is already not far from the clearing, where everyone is brought in UAZ jeeps. There is also a rental of suits, boots. From this entrance to the place being photographed, you need to walk along the river along a forest path nearby and then swim. Many did not dare...because the water is cold.
Conclusion: you can't really see beautiful views dry (at the 1st entrance there is a trail over the canyon, not long) if you don't go in the heat, then take a sap or a suit, and come and not swim...It's kind of a shame.

It is a very picturesque place. Despite the fact that we got there after the rain and the water was muddy, it did not spoil the impression. The employee offered to rent a sap and a wetsuit, he was afraid that the water was cold + 14, we risked going without all this. At first, the water seemed icy and took my breath away at the first dive (there are three places like pits, three meters wide, they need to be crossed, the rest of the way is easy to walk), after 10-15 seconds the body gets used to it and it's not cold anymore, but even high. The most beautiful and unforgettable place in Abkhazia! Crazy nature, the purest icy river, extreme all this to overcome on the sap against the current, dragging on slippery stones of the sap. The river is shallow somewhere, and somewhere 2.5 meters or more deep.
In the deepest and most difficult place to pass, we dropped the phone and it was immediately swept away by the current under the water. The locals told us that phones and cameras are constantly sinking and there is no chance to get them, because the current is deep. But my friends are not used to giving up)) we found a scuba diver / lifeguard in Sochi, took him away at the border, came to the canyon at night, where we were met by the owner of a cafe and hotel near the canyon and just a wonderful man Murad, who understood the scale of our determination to find a phone in the mountains at night underwater))) and Murad, along with Victor / the lifeguard, put on wetsuits and went out into the night... and yes, we must believe in miracles, they found and took out my phone from under the water, which was in a case and continued to receive calls and messages underwater)
In general, we got emotions in the canyon for a long time! And photos from this beautiful place will always remind you of a miracle.

Expectations did not match reality. We were told the water was +21, really +13, and we were in the heat. They said the water was waist-deep, the husband was really 180 cm tall by the throat, in places he barely clung to the bottom with his toes, returning he had to cling to the rocks against the current. The advertising photo shows emerald water, really muddy water and you can't see where you're stepping at all, it's very dangerous. The entrance to the canyon is not equipped in any way, you need to first cross 2 rivers with a rough current, then along the shore, I saw how a man slipped there and fell, there is nothing to hold on to, at least the cable was pulled, you can dislocate your legs. I didn't go to the canyon at all, crossed one river, realized that I would just freeze up to my waist in such water and warned that I had a hip prosthesis, they still took this tour. If there was a quiet entrance to the canyon, then at least you can still walk a little, but you would not want to dislocate your legs. They also promised us fishing when selling, we actually went fishing after the canyon to the trout farm, so there was no fishing 🤣 we came initially asked for fishing, they say you will definitely catch it here 😂🤭 then we bought on white rocks (someone swam, someone did not, because there was a storm) and home. For 2200 to ride and sit on the rocks, to swim a little is too much. I do not recommend this tour especially to women, children, and the elderly. My husband was satisfied, he got adrenaline, in the second half of the canyon he had to overcome a threshold with a strong current, the men barely descend there. The rocks are beautiful in the photo, but they are the same in other places.

If you go straight there, you will find a difficult path through the entire canyon to get to the beautiful places where everyone takes pictures.

On August 4, 2024, we visited the Hashupse Canyon. We initially knew that swimming trunks, flip-flops and towels would be needed, since the water reaches not only to the knee, but also 3 times up to the throat.
We got to it by car (Hyundai solaris) and the road was almost no difficulty. It's all made of gravel, with short stretches of asphalt in places.
At the turn to the parking lot (which is near the cafe 43.422883 40.116857) there was a very steep climb, then I had to "sweat" a little.
At the entrance, it was necessary to pay an entrance ticket (200 rubles per person). There, the "guide" told us how to get to the canyon and gave us some recommendations. And, of course, it was not without the "imposition" of services. We were intimidated by VERY cold water, the fact that in places it is deep, a strong current that it is IMPOSSIBLE to walk in slippers, and before the start of the route, go as much as 500 m up a 150m rise.
Thus, we were offered sapboards (1000r / 1.5 h). Wetsuits (1000r) + special shoes. Waterproof phone case (200p). And, what surprised us especially, the ascent and descent on the Bug (300r / round trip). Many people, frightened, took all the ammunition, but we were inflexible.
Now, as for the canyon itself. The descent and ascent to it (the one at 500m) is not terrible. This is an ordinary gravel driveway. Spoiler alert- on the way back after the cool water, the climb went generally with a bang.
We decided to walk along the trail above at the beginning. It is well equipped and you will be 100% dry. But we won't be able to see the entire canyon this way.
After going down, we started the route. Most of the people around us were carrying their sapboards at all. We were walking lightly. The water is cool, but you can get used to it (after the heat of +32 ° it seemed like an oasis).
3 times the depth was up to my neck (I am 165 meters tall).
We were accompanied by very beautiful views and everyone was very pleased with this trip. We recommend everyone to visit this place!

The canyon is relatively small (for those who have seen the Grand Canyons before, it will not be interesting). The view is beautiful. You don't have to take transport, 10 minutes on foot.
But if you are obese or have health problems, then you can use local transport to go down and up for a fee.
