The Medeu alpine skating rink with the fastest ice is located in Almaty. At one time, many world records were set here. This is a favorite place of Almaty residents and guests of the city. There are fabulously beautiful mountains and clean healing air. The rink itself is large with good skate rentals, the ice is smooth, and there are cafes where you can have a snack. Nearby there is a cable car station that allows you to climb even higher into the mountains to the cool ski resort "Shymkent", the journey time is about 15 minutes, you can just take a ride and admire the stunning views of the Trans-Ili Alatau. The cable car operates year-round, and the skating and skiing season is usually from November to March. I love to visit here in the fall, when the skiing season begins and the Aport ripens - the most delicious and beautiful apples.

A truly wonderful place! I love mountains and ice skating, it's just ecstasy! The ice is smooth, there are a lot of staff members who keep order, music is playing, there are trailers, you can have a snack without taking off your skates.
The only thing that slightly overshadowed the visit was the inaccurate rented skates. It was hard to ride at first, but then I got used to it. Be sure to bring plenty of socks, as the skates are very wide (or my foot turned out to be narrow for them).
In general, we were satisfied, we went to the earliest session, there weren't many people at all (by Moscow standards)

A great place to relax when skating, however, there is one significant flaw in the organization of mass skating. There is no advance notification of those wishing to ride the rink during various speed skating competitions. There are no announcements about such competitions posted on Instagram, on the website, or at the entrance to the rink. You will find out about this only by visiting the skating rink for the opening hour, having traveled half the city by transport. No one picks up the phone at the indicated phone numbers on the Internet sites. There is no feedback from the visitors of the skating rink.

A place that everyone should definitely visit, but do not stop, but use it as a start for climbing a cable car in the Shembulak gorge. Of course, it is better to visit the Medeu skating rink itself in the season when there is an opportunity to skate. There is a complete order with parking, there are many options and places, it does not hit the pocket. From the skating rink, you can walk up to the anti-mud dam for free, it is also interesting, but physically expensive, not everyone will come in. I definitely recommend it as a skating rink in the season or as a transit point when climbing Shembulak.

Sessions last for several hours, so by the middle of the day the ice is in the potholes. There are a lot of people, especially on weekends, the administration does not control it in any way. It's difficult to ride in a crowd, you always bump into someone, especially considering that many people ride against the grain. There are also always those who are not very confident riding, and reckless drivers who accelerate, try to do tricks, crash and drop people. My friend broke his arm because of one such reckless driver. Again, the administration does not monitor such behavior, does not distinguish between zones for high-speed and slow skating.

A great ice rink in a posh location, there is a rental for extra money (2500) and a wardrobe (to hand over shoes) also for extra money (500). There are cafes, lots of places to sit down and take a break. The session schedule on the website did not match the actual one when I visited, it is worth considering this fact.

It's a great place. We were with the children in early December. Everyone was satisfied. They run it in shifts. There is no point in arriving at the beginning of the shift, just waiting in long queues. In just 15 minutes, the whole queue passes. There are enough skates available for rent, of any size. The food is more difficult (mostly a light snack), there are several eateries on the street. A limited number of visitors are allowed per shift, but there are still a lot of people at the rink. If you just want to come for a walk, then you still have to pay for admission. The ice is serviced regularly, but due to the large number of visitors it quickly rolls out. Parking is paid, and it takes another 10-15 minutes to get to the skating rink. Buses mainly run to the skating rink.

It's very beautiful here! We have been here twice during our short vacation. We rode the cable car, climbed the stairs of almost 850 steps and walked a lot. Nature is beautiful! I strongly advise you to visit here. Services other than toilets and the ticket office for the funicular were not used.

No doubt a legendary place, I have long wanted to skate, circle around the mountains, fresh air, on beautiful, smooth ice.
It came true, I took a ride. But if it wasn't for the service, the high rental price is very high compared to other rentals, the inventory is dead, the blades are blunt. If it had been sharpened, it wouldn't have smelled, and I wouldn't have worried about the price.
I changed my skates 3 times to somehow ride and not slide like a cow on ice. We have a lot of skating experience and skills, and we know how to ride.
In general, it's a great place, but with your own skates or from another rental.

We really wanted to get here. All these breathy stories of tourists-parents from the Soviet past.
On the way here, you can save a lot by taking a regular city bus. 200 tenge for the driver, less than 40 rubles for ours.
The weather is always worse on the mountain than it is below. It is better to stock up on a warm jacket and good shoes in advance. Girls in sandals and T-shirts look very exotic at the top station. Especially next to the belated snowboarders trying to ride on the remnants of the snow for the last time.
If you forgot to take things from home, at least buy raincoats at the entrance. 2000 tenge is a small fee for comfort.
Actually, if not during the ski season, climbing the mountain is a sightseeing tour.
There's a lot to see. It's very beautiful around here.
There are cafes at the intermediate stations to relax and have a snack.
The staff on the lift successfully packs the diverse audience into the booths, preventing the formation of a large queue. There are many Chinese, Japanese, and Hindus among the tourists.

It is surrounded by mountains, near several trails for walking through gorges, hot springs, cafes, etc. You can get there by public transport or taxi. There is a cable car nearby, which allows you to get to the ski resort "Shymkent". If you don't ski, you can just walk along the Talgar pass - the beauty is incredible!

Comrades, I want to share my impressions of visiting the Medeu alpine skating rink near Almaty. It was exactly 40 years ago, in the glorious days of the Soviet Union, when ice cream cost 20 kopecks, and the queues for it were shorter than for tickets to a concert by Alla Pugacheva.
The Medeu skating rink is not just an ice rink, it is a symbol of our great era! Just imagine: the mountains, the fresh air, the ice, which, as they said, was so smooth that even Brezhnev, if he had arrived, would have been able to ride it without the help of his comrades. By the way, the ice there is so strong that if it had been used to build communism, we would have been living in a bright future long ago.
When I first went on the ice, I felt like a real Olympic champion. However, five minutes later I was already lying on this very ice, but it doesn't matter! The main thing is participation, as they said in those days. There was also such an atmosphere at the rink that even the local mountains seemed to applaud everyone who did not fall.
I especially remember the moment when I decided to show my son how to skate. I accelerated like a Soyuz rocket, but I forgot that brakes on skates are not my strong suit. As a result, I crashed into the side so that I think I left my autograph there. The son then said, "Dad, you ride like a tank in the mountains!" Well, it's fair.
There was also some special magic on Medeu. Maybe it's because of the height, or maybe it's because people from all over the Union gathered there. Everyone is so friendly, smiling, and ready to support you, even if you skate like a penguin on roller skates.
Now, 40 years later, I look at the photos from Medeu and I think: Those were the days! The ice, the mountains, the people, the atmosphere — everything was imbued with the spirit of our great country. If katok Medeu could speak, he would say: "Comrades, take care of the ice, take care of the mountains, take care of each other!"
I recommend to everyone who has not been to this place yet, be sure to visit it. But I warn you: take felt boots with you just in case, so as not to slip not only on the ice, but also in life.

The city of Almaty (you can't get used to it, Alma-Ata pronounces the language itself) is located at the foot of the majestic Alatau mountain range. The most famous alpine skating rink of the Soviet Union, Medeu, is located here and continues to operate. Today, the city has already come close to the highlands and we got to Medeu by bus. And then the cable car to the snow-capped peaks of Alatau…
Only mountains can be better than mountains! Words are powerless here.
And the opening of the day was a cable car cabin with a transparent floor. This has never happened to us before: it's scary, beautiful, and to the point!
