An incredible atmospheric monument of architecture of the early Middle Ages! I don't know if there's an Orthodox service in the cathedral right now, but they're definitely giving great organ concerts. Initially, I was a little put off by the fact that there is no "perfect" decoration inside the cathedral as such, not all the frescoes have been preserved. But this is the highlight of the cathedral: we can clearly observe how the temple was rebuilt and modernized, we can trace the masonry of different eras, as well as the practiced use of stones from old buildings in new ones! You feel a little like Indiana Jones.

A great place, the preservation of the temple, which is a thousand years old, is impressive... Beautiful, inside and out. I would like to listen to the organ that stands there. The temple is ancient, the organ is German, the renovation is Soviet, the chairs are Hungarian - everything has been preserved for 35 years)

The Pitsunda Temple, also known as the Patriarchal Cathedral of St. Andrew the First–Called, rises within the Great Pitiunt State Reserve, founded in 1991 to preserve the cultural heritage of Abkhazia. The history of the temple goes back to the IV century, when the first ancient Christian basilica was built on the site of the Roman settlement of Pitiunt.
Inside the cathedral, in its western part, there is a tomb, in which there are two tombs arranged for the apostles Andrew the First-Called and Simon the Canaanite, as evidenced by the frescoes of the two apostles inside the tomb.
The temple building has excellent acoustic properties. Thanks to this, an organ concert hall was opened here in 1975.
