Preparatory work on the construction of the temple began in the spring of 1996 on the basement of a 14-storey building that was never built in connection with the collapse of the USSR, donated to the parish by the leadership of the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) at the request of the rector fr.Joseph.
On August 9, 2000, Metropolitan Chrysostom consecrated the church in the name of the Holy Great Martyr and healer Panteleimon, where divine services began to be held regularly. The construction of the second floor of the church, as well as the first, is carried out thanks to the financial support of the diocese, the NPP, the Visaginian Government, as well as private donations.
Three clerics serve in the church of the Holy Great Martyr Panteleimon in the city of Visaginas: rector Archpriest Joseph Zateishvili, dean of the Visaginsky Deanery, Archpriest Georgy Salomatov, and Deacon Valentin Gasyulevich.
