A trip to the south of the country in Lenkoran. Thank you Smile Tour for organizing an excursion to the land of tea and citrus fruits. In a full sense, an educational trip with a pleasant aftertaste.
The tour is relatively long, with a one-way distance of more than 250 km. Fully commit to 12 hours. A comfortable minibus, an interesting tour along the road from the Turkan guide. During the journey, we visited three climatic zones: the dry coastal subtropics of Baku, the steppe climate of the foothills and, of course, the humid subtropics of the southern valleys. The road runs along modern expressways, without traffic jams. For fans of industrial tourism, there are majestic offshore oil production platforms-floating cities. For lovers of history and poetry, drive over the bridge over the Kura River surrounded by fields and white cotton snow.
Lankaran is a warm and hospitable land. The slopes of the Talysh Mountains are a unique natural relic. We drove through a forest overgrown with chestnut-leaved oak, common only in this area. A great place in any weather is a mountain lake for photo shoots: the Khanbulanachai reservoir.
The heart of the tour is a visit to a tea plantation. We bought a tour of the Old Town from the Smile company. Fall for the sociable promoters. The guys told me everything very well and took me to the office. Everything is fine there too. But the tour itself was a quiet horror. Of the one and a half hour tour, we spent half an hour supposedly tasting tea with a micro slice of baklava. You can survive this, but there is no bad guide. Ildar just led us from point to point, saying the name of the place. And nothing else! That's what I came on this tour with, and that's what I left with. He didn't say anything. Sorry for the wasted time.
Now about the cost. Friends, don't buy from Smile. Don't be fooled by the promoters in red vests. There are also other agencies on the territory of the Old Town. But you will be well treated by the Smile (SAT) promoters on the way and will be taken to the office before you know it. In general, take a walk and look around. But I heartily do not recommend this empty and stupid excursion and this SAT company.
Unfortunately, no one warned us so much and we bought as many as 4 excursions from them. Which I will also tell you about. In the meantime, Smile gets a stake!

We bought an excursion to Gabala on 05/29/2025 (voucher in the photo).
1. Unreasonably expensive. Unfortunately, immediately after arrival, we paid for the tour in this company, and after that we found out that they have the highest prices.
2. After payment, we discussed the meeting place and time. I was hoping that they would send a message with all the information, but I had to write and call them myself to find out the exact time of collection.
3. The "comfortable" transfer turned out to be not comfortable at all. The dirty interior and the dying frame of the seats are what the company considers comfort.
4. Lunch in a picturesque place (the restaurant apparently pays money to the tour operator for visitors). We wanted to go somewhere else to eat, but we were told that there was no time for that and IT WAS generally THE CHEAPEST HERE. After lunch, we decided to walk to the nearest kiosks (before that, the guide said that we could stay there for an hour, I set the timer), but it turned out that everyone was already waiting for us and we were late, although there were still 15 minutes left on the timer.
5. Useless stops along the way, but there is a strict time limit for the places listed on the tour. And then it turned out to be even more interesting, we stopped just so that the guide would eat.
6. The guide - practically didn't tell us anything, he just guided us by time and also swore that we were delayed somewhere. And on the way back I went to bed.
7. The senior manager answered all the comments and found a way to justify his company. I also want to read the answer here and see if it will be the same as in private messages.
I give two stars only because of the driver, he often answered our questions and just kept a good mood all the way.

Lunch was near a mountain lake, delicious, the views are beautiful. In Sheki, the Shah's palace and the Caravanserai are beautiful. They also bought Sheken baklava there. We were on an individual family tour to Gobustan, the minivan drove up to the hotel on time, the Khazar guide is a professional in his field, told us about the country and its history, enjoyed the tour, except for one minus. We went with this company on excursions Gobustan + sightseeing Absheron (Sabukhi guide) and Gabala tour (Inara guide). Plus a bonus gift tour of Baku at night (Inara guide). The excursions are informative, both mentioned guides work professionally, the excursions were organized by Russian-speaking tourists and English-speaking (Chinese, Indians). The transition from Russian to English has never bothered. The guides told a lot of interesting facts about the history and reality of the visited places. They were always ready to give additional information and show interesting places around.
