It is useful for general development. Like any other locations with an ancient history. Only the entrance to the palace costs an inadequate 1,700 rubles per person. (for local 170) If you want a guide, then prepare another $ 40-50 per person. The tour itself is mediocre. I think a free audio guide that you can take for free after buying a ticket will solve the problem not much worse. Near the palace there is a pleasant Gulhane Park with alleys, benches, where large green parrots live. You can relax there. Admission to the park is free.

However, the big disadvantage is the cost of 1,500 lira (≈50$ at the time of writing) for tourists, when the entrance for locals is 250. The evidence of an aggressive pricing policy towards tourists is sad, although it is not something surprising.

After we passed the ticket turnstiles, one of the three of us lost the ticket. After that, one person was simply not allowed into the harem, although he was included in the price on this ticket. I don't see the logic in this, because we passed the turnstile with a ticket. Obviously, we couldn't go in without paying. The frustration of spending a fairly large amount and such a rude attitude of the staff.
I can notice the palace itself and the territory are beautiful, but the organization, price and attitude of tourists are disgusting. I'm unlikely to go a second time or recommend it to someone.

I was not impressed, there were huge queues for tickets (for such a price, we could put umbrellas so that it would not be so hot to wait). The palace itself is not impressed, it is quite monotonous. At the end there is only a beautiful fountain and walls. It's not worth it for such a price (1,500 lire per person).

We walked around the palace for almost 4.5 hours at an average pace. And we didn't even watch a little bit.
I don't know why they write that the audio guide should be listened to with headphones. We listened perfectly well without them. Several locations were not translated into Russian, but it's not scary. Overall, we liked the audio guide.
And I still don't know why everyone writes to come to the opening itself, we arrived at 12:00, there were no queues (end of November).

The palace is luxurious and beautiful! Part of the premises is reserved for museum exhibits of objects belonging to the Ottoman dynasty.
The garden is beautiful and well maintained. The balconies offer magnificent views of the Bosphorus.
The interior of the palace is a work of art! It is necessary to take at least 3 hours for the examination.
The only thing is that the crowds of tourists scurrying back and forth prevented them from completely immersing themselves in the atmosphere and imagining how they lived in the palace under Suleiman the Magnificent)).

In 2016, much more was opened (although the chambers of Hurrem Sultan are always under restoration, it is impossible to get in) . The Sultan and Walide's chambers were now closed. Somehow the question arises, what are we paying for? Look outside the building and several halls, while the most interesting is closed from fans of the Magnificent Century.
The territory of 1400 is impressive, you can walk along the Golden Path, freezing inside if you fly in the cool season. I've been in winter and spring and summer and autumn)
One cafe for thousands of people. Yes, you can look at the Bosphorus from there. But it is better to buy a boat trip. Just my thoughts.
P.S. In front of the kitchen area, where there are huge stoves, there is an almost black smooth tree that is more than 500 years old. They walk past him without noticing. I stopped and thought about how many centuries had passed, people were born and died, but it still stands.

There is a lot to think about. There is a fairy tale on the screen, in real life all the romance is replaced by not the best echo of those times. Survival and the constant struggle to save lives.
