I recommend visiting the museum! The exposition is excellent, there are many sculptures, they are successfully exhibited, you can slowly look at them from different angles. On the second floor there is a huge interactive table where you can wash your archaeological finds. Tombs add a special delight! When buying tickets for foreigners, they are given wireless headphones and a form with a QR code, through which you can download the application to your phone and listen to a guided tour of the codes inside the museum. BUT we couldn't install the app, the internet speed was terrible. I couldn't use these headphones. As in other museums in Istanbul, there are no grandmothers in the halls that we are used to, only the guards are not in every hall. They refused to help us with the headphones, and sent us to a ticket kiosk, but we didn't waste any time.

A wonderful place with an incredible exposition, the museum is quite large and impressive, there is a souvenir shop, the ticket price is 15 euros, but they only accept lira, at the entrance you are given an audio guide with headphones, although our headphones were completely discharged, so we connected our own, but even without a guide, everything is clear if you have at least a little idea about the history of Greek and Roman sculptures

We visited the museum via the Museum Pass Istanbul. The impressions turned out to be mixed: on the one hand, a very strong exposition, on the other, organizational issues spoiled the overall experience. The general problem The main disadvantage is that part of the complex was closed.: • Tiles Museum — closed • the building with Islamic art is also closed for repairs At the same time: • the cost of the ticket (or the value of the Museum Pass) is not compensated in any way • you'll find out about it after the fact As a result, you get about a part of the full experience, although you expect the whole complex. It's definitely disappointing. The main building of the Archaeological Museum At the same time, the main building is really very strong. • two floors • many halls • thoughtful exposition I would like to note separately: • dark space with accent lighting of exhibits — creates an atmosphere • Detailed descriptions (in Turkish and English) • Good navigation Exhibits Most impressed by: • sculptures • sarcophagi and stone carvings • Jewelry • coins Dishes aroused less interest, but this is a matter of personal preference. Interactive There are interactive elements, which is nice: • "excavations" in the sand (you can find artifacts and watch their 3D models) • screens with additional information This adds to the engagement, especially if you go without a guide. Audio guide and perception We didn't take the audio guide — we watched everything on our own: • we read some of the information on the spot • part — additionally searched for Perhaps with an audio guide, the impression would be even deeper. Attendance A very pleasant moment — there are few people: • there are no crowds • you can look at everything calmly • the atmosphere is quiet and cultured This is a big plus compared to many other tourist destinations in Istanbul. Result The museum itself is really high—quality and interesting. But organizational issues strongly influence the overall impression. Positive: • Strong main exposure • Beautiful and impressive artifacts • Interactive elements • few people, comfortable atmosphere Minuses: • part of the complex is closed without compensation • you get incomplete experience because of this. Conclusion: It is worth a visit, especially if you are interested in archeology and history. But it is better to specify in advance which buildings are open, otherwise expectations may not match reality.

It's a good museum. The cost of tickets is significantly lower than in most other places in Istanbul. I really liked the museum's exposition. You can use an audio guide, including in Russian, and Bluetooth headphones are also included with tickets (they are not very good headphones, although they basically perform the function of an audio guide, but they must first be placed in a case and charged for a while).

To put it bluntly, I didn't expect this museum to be so cool. The exhibits are of excellent preservation, and there are many of them, and a lot of 3-4 centuries BC. The exposition is concise and informative. Beautifully exposed lighting of the exhibits on a general black background. We came a little late, I didn't want to leave there. I'll definitely go there again next time. In general, I was impressed. And the lectures on art history that I had already forgotten came back to my memory. And everything in this museum whispers about a scientific approach to art, archaeology, and excavation.

The museum is magnificent! There are many valuable and interesting exhibits: the golden diadem, the sarcophagus of Alexander the Great. But not his, but named after him. I learned about it from the audio guide. I recommend downloading the Mzekart app. It is downloaded when selling headphones. We thought we were buying an audio guide, but it turned out to be just wireless headphones. They were never used, they are not loaded. Don't spend 400 lire. They just helped us connect WiFi and download this app. They chose a museum, a language, and downloaded a description of the exhibits by numbers. The stories in this app's audio guide are interesting. It is better to download everything in advance and then go to the museum itself and listen. We need to plan a whole day for this museum. It's better to take some kind of snack with you.

One of the few museums in Istanbul where it was really interesting to take a walk and look at the exhibits. Like probably all people, we went here via the Museum Pass to get the most out of the ticket, but, to be honest, we did not expect such a carefully selected installation. There weren't many visitors (maybe because we traveled in January, which was cold for Istanbul?), which pleased us even more, because almost all the halls were purely for us alone. We didn't take an audio guide, but it would be interesting to listen to a similar description about each era, but everywhere there is a description in English.

The museum is great They force you to buy an audio guide at the entrance. They say that there is no information inside. This is a lie, each exhibit is signed with a comment. If you don't know English, you can use a Google translator. It is simply impossible to use an audio guide. Firstly, you need to download the app (this is when you are roaming), and secondly, you still need to charge these headphones. After a walk through the museum, I went to the ticket office to swear in English) They immediately returned the 450 lire to me So do not hesitate to look confident at the entrance and calmly pay only for the ticket. It costs 15 euros.

The museum is interesting and with cool exhibits, my daughter, who is 6 years old, was there, and we spent about 3 hours. I liked the power of the ancient statues of the tomb of Macedon... It's better to have the Internet to install the app that they recommend downloading and it tells the story, if that they give headphones)

Perhaps the only place in Istanbul that reflects the presence of Romans and Greeks in these lands. There is a lot of Greek sculpture, household items and jewelry, excerpts from mythology. Set aside at least half a day for a visit.

I really liked the museum! We didn't regret going. We bought only passing tickets at the ticket office without an audio guide (cost: 15€) – it was very interesting to read about each exhibit yourself, especially if you have knowledge of history, then everything will be easier. We visited the museum at 10-11 a.m., there were few people (a couple of people), so we walked in a free, relaxed mode, without crowds and jostling.

It's a great big museum, which will take a lot of time (at least 3 hours) to see everything. Despite the fact that on 17.01.26 only one (main) building was open, and the other two (free-standing) were closed. I recommend you to visit. However, finding the entrance to the museum is still a quest))) Yandex maps and all the signs lead through Gulhane Park, BUT there are repairs there (the road is being dug, piles of earth are piled up) and it is impossible to pass, the security says you have to go around outside the garden, while THERE is NOT A SINGLE SIGN. I had to ask a lot of people. So, to get to the museum: you need to enter the territory of Topkapi, where, after passing through the gate, you will have an inspection of things on the tape (a ticket to Topkapi is not required here, you will enter for free). Then, going forward, you will see the temple (museum) of St. Irene on the right, after which turn left and go down the hill (you will see a booth with guards) and an arch in the form of a passage - go there, straight ahead and to the right you will see the ticket office of the archaeological museum. I have attached a photo of the route below. The ticket price is 15 euros, 1,500 Turkish lira for two people. BUT, please note, when buying, as they wrote earlier in the reviews, they say the price is higher... they asked us for 2,400 lira, when they saw that they were giving us packed boxes with headphones for an audio guide, we refused them and they returned 900 lira to us. You can listen to the audio guide for free if you have the Internet: go to the museum's website, download the application, scan the barcode from your ticket there and select the language, that's it, you can listen. There is a toilet only in a separate administrative building, there are also no signs on the street, but when you go inside, you will see the WC icon on the left.

It's a bit of a clueless museum. It is divided into the right and left wings, it is not clear where to start viewing from. An audio guide was sold at the ticket office along with the regular tickets (although we didn't ask for it). We had to install an application using a QR code on our Samsung and iPhone, as a result, after suffering for 15 minutes, we went back to the checkout, because it was impossible to install it. They refused to return the money to us. As a result, after 30 minutes. The security girl installed the app for us through the website. Unfortunately, there was no audio guide in Russian (some numbers on the audio guide did not match the numbers of the exhibits. As a result, we lost about an hour. Of all the exhibits, I liked only the sarcophagi on the left side of the museum. By the way, there is no toilet in the museum either, you need to go outside and enter the room where there is some kind of warehouse with exhibits.

I really liked it! I recommend it to history lovers.Interesting design. There is an audio guide in Russian, but it is not very detailed and not for all exhibits, but with an appendix, translator, you can read the description under each exhibit. It is located on two floors with high ceilings in a historic building. The exposition smoothly flows onto the street in the courtyard.Outside, you can have a snack and drink coffee.

The museum is good, the exhibitions are interesting, but the organization of viewing is minus 10 stars. They sniffed an audio guide that was completely useless, I had never encountered such a confusing system anywhere, the headphones lived a separate life from the device, it was necessary to install the application in the phone, the Internet was mandatory. The audio guide itself was almost completely discharged at the time of its connection. Why make it so difficult? As a result, we stupidly wandered around the museum, looked at it in silence and left. For this money , it 's not much fun . I took down the stars just for that.

The museum has a lot to see for lovers of antiquity. There are sculptures, dishes, decorations. In my opinion, the most interesting room is with sarcophagi. When buying tickets, you will be offered headphones with an audio guide. The headphones are all discharged and it is not possible to use them, you just buy wireless headphones for 900 lira. Everyone downloads the application on the brochure that they give out with the ticket and goes and listens to the audio guide as usual. So think about whether you need headphones for that money...

The exposition itself is quite in line with expectations. But it does not match the price of 15 euros (6,000 rubles at the exchange rate for 4 family members) plus an audio guide imposed at the checkout with absolutely terrible headphones (another 4,000 rubles for 4 sets, a total of 10,000 rubles), which randomly connect to the phones of all family members and are discharged after 5 minutes. Fiddling with the audio guide connection completely ruined the whole experience. Audio guide - money is wasted! It turned out to be almost impossible to use it, and the money (4,000 rubles) cannot be returned here. I would also like to mention the trademark "courtesy" of the security guards, who drove visitors out almost 10 minutes before the museum closed. Alexander's sarcophagus, as it turned out later, is not exactly related to Alexander the Great. On the plus side, the exposition dedicated to the excavations in Troy is very interesting. In general, for such an archaeologically rich territory, the exposition looks a bit poor, in the same Heraklion (compare the territory of Crete and the Ottoman Empire) it is much richer. Total -kkk prices in Paris, service as in Turkey

I liked it, although my sister didn't like it) The exposition is quite informative, there are many sculptures, household utensils, jewelry and, of course, sarcophagi.. I was very impressed by the scale of the Roman Empire when you look at the map and compare it with modern geographical realities.. There is something to think about .

Two floors of perfectly presented historical objects and conveniently located halls will be a godsend for history lovers! A must-visit!

Two floors with sparsely placed exhibits. Which in general are more interesting in a historical context, rather than in themselves. A la "Istanbul Museum of Local Lore")) 15 euros for admission is most likely paid for the opportunity to see the "sarcophagus of Alexander the Great" (in fact, this sarcophagus of King Abdalonim of Sidon). Well, that's a bummer. The only place where I really stuck for 20 minutes was looking at the coins minted here since the time of the Roman Empire. We spent no more than an hour in this museum, and during that time the visitors managed to change twice. Most people seem to walk through the museum in 30 minutes, which in itself says a lot about the quality of the exhibition, in my opinion. Well, the people here are "big-nosed", unlike other attractions in Istanbul, where it was crowded.

The museum is definitely five stars !!! Impressive sculptures, bas-reliefs … Goosebumps already … Four stars for the audio guide, who is just like handkerchiefs being squeezed into everything along with the ticket.. And the guide doesn't work in Russian. … Overpaying for useless headphones is wild! And the historical shrines that Istanbul inherited from Constantinople fascinate and immerse itself in a distant history. …

The most interesting museum. The exposition is well chosen. The price is very affordable for such a museum! Each exhibit has a description, quite detailed, which can be read with the help of an interpreter. My husband and I did this: we looked at the exhibit, discussed it. Then they took a photo of the description of the exhibit using a Google translator, or any previously downloaded one, sat on a bench opposite the exhibit and started voice acting. Or just read it. Cheap and convenient.

This is a place that definitely needs to be visited by connoisseurs of the ancient history of the Near East. The museum was founded at a time when the Ottoman Empire still existed, so its exposition includes not only artifacts found in the current territory of Turkey, but also from Syria, Egypt, and Mesopotamia. The exposition is well organized, there are many explanatory texts in English and Turkish. There are wonderful paintings on the walls depicting scenes from the life of the respective cities and civilizations. A separate large section is devoted to Troy (before going to the excavations, it is better to see their results here!). A wonderful hall dedicated to the profession of archaeology itself, with a model of excavation, a bunch of educational videos and equipment that is used in the study of found artifacts.

I would really like to give 5 stars and write a positive review: the museum has a wonderful collection of monuments, the exposition is excellent. I'm an art critic and museum worker myself, and I know what I'm writing about. But there is a "but"… Right on the threshold of the museum (at the checkout), foreign tourists are "bred", apparently relying on their quick wit when transferring money from one currency to another. For understanding, at the ticket office, some of the prices for tickets and services for foreigners are indicated in euros, some in lira, which is strange in itself. More precisely: ticket - 15 euros; headphones for an audio guide (not an audio guide) - 450 lira. Such a story happened to us. We were alone with my husband in March. They asked for 2 adult tickets, which is 30 euros (in March 2026 it is about 1,500 lira). We paid in lira and were charged 2440 lira, giving us 2 boxes of headphones in addition. Of course, we didn't expect a trick where it shouldn't be, and we didn't count the money on the spot. It took us about 30 minutes to realize the discrepancy between the price and the exchange rate. We returned to the checkout and asked for an explanation of why we had been sold headphones that we had not asked for. It was explained to us for a long time and persistently that headphones are included in the ticket price. We asked for confirmation of this, that is, a receipt, to which we were told that they provide a receipt only if the customer pays with a card, and not with a cash (How is this possible? This is not a private shop, it is a large state museum. The cashiers could not explain at what euro exchange rate the cost of our tickets was calculated. Only after the demand to call the senior administrator, 900 lire was taken out through the side door (not through the cash register window) and the headphones were taken away. And it's not that we were so principled, it wasn't worth the nerves, but the impression of visiting the museum was ruined. I would not like to talk about the peculiarities of the mentality, there are many tricks for "divorce" in Istanbul, but the state museum is definitely the last place where you expect to find yourself in a similar situation. A museum, first of all a state museum, no matter in which part of the world it is located, is not only a monument of art, a well-organized exposition, etc. but also a culture of communication! P.S. I read the reviews of other tourists only after writing my own. It turns out that we were lucky to get the money back, because we didn't unpack the headphones and seriously "attacked" the sales office. Be careful!

The museum is interesting, especially for connoisseurs of history. Entry in February 2025 cost 575 liras. Unique exhibits are collected, it was especially interesting to look at the exhibits of Troy, I had never seen such a thing in museums before, there are several different halls, there are interactive ones. By a "lucky" chance, I got on school trips, the children were very active in shouting at the entire museum, almost touching the exhibits, the museum staff did not make comments, as did the teachers. I had to run to the second floor to quietly enjoy a piece of history.😅

The Archaeological Museum in Istanbul is certainly one of the best museums in the city with a rich collection of historical artifacts. Greek sculptures, household items and tableware, sarcophagi and ritual burial paraphernalia, as well as a separate hall dedicated to the semi-mythical city of Troy - all that makes up the cultural stratum of the ancient peoples who inhabited the Turkish lands long before the Ottomans. I highly recommend it to all History lovers.

For me, this museum has become the best attraction in Istanbul. 1. Beautiful ancient statues from 7-8 BC to 1-2 centuries AD. 2. Sarcophagus, made on the instructions of Alexander the Great for the satrap, i.e. is his contemporary. 3. Trojan artifacts + a visual hall with a huge wall showing the depth of the excavation. 4. The lowest price among all paid places in Istanbul (1400 rubles for June 2025). 5. There are few people if you go in the morning. 6. Well, and a bonus: coins of Byzantium.

I was especially surprised, delighted and simply fell in love with the collection of sarcophagi! There were few Egyptian ones, but they are in a separate corner of my memory for me. But the others! I JUST CAN'T DESCRIBE IT!!!!! huge, marble ones! With just incredibly beautiful carvings! And the statues? God! What a job and what an incredible beauty! I will definitely attach a photo! Dishes, coins, and jewelry are on display on the second floor of the museum. I want to look at everything, bargain... It takes a lot of time for each exposure! Because you just can't get away. One of the must have places to visit in Istanbul. The ticket is 15 euros or 700 lira, which is not comparable to tickets to palaces for 60-70 euros. The exhibition provides complete information about what the lands of Turkey were like in different eras. The last room is the jewels of Constantinople. There is no history of the sultans' bloody feuds or the development of the Ottoman Empire, but there are halls of Troy and the mythology of Persia and other Greece.

The museum itself is rich and interesting, but the organization is ugly. We had an Istanbul museum card, so to get an audio guide, we also had to buy a ticket to the museum. The ticket has a QR code for access to the tour. We were also given a separate audio guide for 450 lire, which is just headphones, i.e. in fact, if you have your own, you don't need them, because the scan code for access to the tour is on the ticket itself. The tour itself is ugly: most of the tour is self-translation and auto-sound with all the consequences (unnatural formulations and incorrect accents), very difficult navigation in the museum, there is no understanding of which hall is behind which, which audio belongs to this hall.

The museum has many antique sculptures, sarcophagi, and coins of various ancient states. Part of the exhibition is dedicated to Troy: it shows the stages of the city's development and the artifacts found during its excavations. One of the halls explains in detail how archaeologists work. The museum has two floors, and the building is large, so if you look at everything in detail, you can spend several hours or more. There is a free audio guide for your phone, which also has the Russian language, but there are several nuances with its installation. Inside the museum, near the turnstiles, there is a stand with a QR code, with which you can download an audio guide application to your phone. You can do this if you have a mobile Internet connection, and there is no free Wi-Fi on the museum's territory. Next, using the audio guide application, you need to scan the QR code from the entrance ticket to the museum, and then you can download the actual audio guide files. A ticket to the museum can be purchased either at the ticket office near the entrance, or online on the official website. The cost in January 2025 is 15 euros.

When you are offered headphones at the checkout, do not be fooled, they are not offering an audio guide, but really stupid headphones (I almost returned with 3 pairs like that). They cheat at the checkout , the price on the poster is 15 euros for tourists, in fact they ask to pay almost twice as much. Then they give you a useless box with cheap headphones to listen to the audio guide. The audio guide itself is free, but the recordings are bad, they take a very long time to load, and the headphones don't connect well to the iPhone. It's unpleasant to encounter such a thing in a state museum. The collection is certainly decent, but after that, the desire to go to see something disappears completely.

The museum is incredibly rich in antique sculptures. The exhibition is complemented by panoramic paintings with subjects from different eras, which are presented in the halls. And there are artifacts collected for tens of centuries, since the time of Troy. By the way, separate halls with very informative descriptions are dedicated to this city. In general, for those who are interested - a museum for the whole day! It is better to buy tickets online, there is a long queue at the entrance. Even in the morning, I stood for about 20 minutes at the opening.

The museum itself is great! My daughter and I really liked it! But! At the checkout, they're trying to trick us into giving them an audio guide that we didn't need. The girl at the ticket counter refused to sell tickets without him. We were lucky and had a shift shift! Another girl sold tickets without an audio guide.
