A small cathedral chapel on the territory of the Royal Palace. It was originally created to store holy relics that were exported during the Crusades. We were delighted with the beautiful stained glass windows describing various scenes from the Bible. It's insanely beautiful. The chapel is connected to the palace by a gallery.

This is the greatest treasure of the Gothic era! You can endlessly admire Notre Dame or other Gothic cathedrals, but Saint-Chapelle is a gem. This is a chapel-reliquary from the middle of the 13th century on the territory of the former Royal Palace. It has two floors and is quite small. The king conceived it as a storage place for the greatest Christian shrines from Constantinople: the Crown of Thorns, fragments of the Holy Cross and other valuable objects mentioned in the Old and New Testaments. Of course, the ruler did not save money - it is believed that the construction of the Holy Chapel was three times more expensive than the cost of the Crown of Thorns he acquired. The interior is striking: the lower chapel is decorated with medallions, images of heraldic lilies on a blue background, towers, and the ceiling resembles a blue night sky with golden stars. The upper chapel (designed specifically for storing sacred relics) is simply breathtaking: sculptures, columns, weightlessness and incredibly beautiful stained glass windows that give color to the entire room. Their area is about 600 square meters and they are original (13th century). You leave Saint-Chapelle with pride for humanity, that it is able to create such works of art.
