Standing proudly on Anchor Square, facing the sea and the ships of his creation, the Monument to Peter the Great in Kronstadt is far more than a statue. It is the heart of the island, the soul of its naval traditions, and the most fitting tribute to the man who dreamed of opening Russia to the world through the power of the sea. When you stand before this monument, you’re standing before history itself — the moment when Peter’s vision for St. Petersburg and Kronstadt came to life. Kronstadt was founded in 1704 by order of Peter the Great, who wanted a strong naval fortress to protect his new capital, St. Petersburg. The emperor himself visited the site many times, overseeing construction, inspecting the shipyards, and personally guiding the development of what would become Russia’s main naval base on the Baltic Sea. Peter was not only a ruler but also an engineer, sailor, and shipbuilder. He believed in learning through doing — and Kronstadt was his workshop. Here, Russian shipbuilding, navigation, and naval science were born. The monument that now stands in his honor embodies that restless energy and vision. The Monument to Peter I represents more than one man — it represents the entire philosophy of progress, courage, and curiosity that defined Peter’s reign. He transformed Russia from a landlocked empire into a maritime power, and Kronstadt was the anchor of that transformation. Every element of the statue tells that story: the confident stance, the seaward gaze, the sword and naval coat — all symbols of leadership and readiness. Yet there’s also something deeply human about the figure. Peter’s face, as sculpted by Neff, carries not just authority but thoughtfulness — the expression of a man aware of the weight of his vision. For the people of Kronstadt, the monument is a point of pride and identity. It stands as a reminder that their city exists because one man believed in the impossible — building a fortress in the middle of the sea and a fleet that would change history.

Один из самых лучших, на мой взгляд, памятников Петру первому находится в городе Кронштадте– Пётр в полный рост в сапогах в отворотами и мундире – он просто прекрасен!
