The Stockholm Mosque (also known as the Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Mosque) is the largest mosque in Stockholm and its suburbs. It is located in the historic Katarina Power Plant (Katarinastationen), built in 1903 by architect Ferdinand Buberg in the Art Nouveau style using Moorish motifs. (The architect was impressed by his visit to Morocco.) In 1996, the building was sold by the Stockholm City Administration to the Islamic Association for conversion into a mosque. The reconstruction was funded mainly by the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Zayed. In 2005, the mosque became the headquarters of one of the Islamic organizations in Sweden. (There are several Islamic associations in Sweden that have complicated relationships.)
