The amazing history of Tashkent chimes Tashkent chimes are one of the eternal symbols of the city. It is associated with romantic dates, the lamp atmosphere of the old center. The first clock tower was built in the post-war years, and now every 15 minutes the chimes emit a shrill chime in memory of those who died in the battles of World War II. The clock itself was removed from the town hall in a small East Prussian town during the Soviet offensive. This idea belongs to Alexander Eisenstein, a native of Tashkent, who was a master watchmaker and convinced the command to save the watch before blowing up the building. Subsequently, Eisenstein repaired the clock, and architect Mukhamedshin won the competition for the construction of the tower for them. The structure was placed in the central square. The talented hand of the master Shirin Muradov owns decorative elements decorating the building: traditional ganch carving gives the tower an oriental flavor.
All his life, Alexander Eisenstein was the curator of the chimes, repairing and maintaining the mechanism in working order. Including after the earthquake of 1966, when the structure was seriously damaged. In memory of him, a plaque dedicated to the contribution of the master to the history of the Tashkent chimes is installed on the upper platform of the tower
