He served in the SA in 1960-63 in the SA in the Armenian SSR. For some time, the unit was located in the Small or Red Fortress. It is quite well preserved despite the earthquakes, which almost completely destroyed the city. The former names of the city are Kumairi, Alexandropol, Leninakan, currently Gyumri. A very interesting structure of the fortress, located on the Tbilisi-Yerevan road. The fortress is surrounded by a moat, and then an earthen rampart, inside which there were residential and other premises. There are other structures on the territory of the fortress, both underground and aboveground. Inscriptions have been preserved above the roadway of the gate: Tiflis on one gate, Erivan on the other.
The red fortress is called by the color of the round siege tower, lined with red bricks. Other buildings are connected by underground passages that have partially collapsed. On the territory of the fortress, a pipe with a diameter of about 50mm came out of the ground, from which very cold and delicious pure water flowed all year round with a fairly strong pressure. We drank from it and washed our faces. With little funding for landscaping, strengthening of individual structures to ensure reliable security, the fortress could become a welcoming place for tourists.
