The best time to visit Amberd is definitely the sunrise or sunset.

Amazing fortress, amazing views. Unlike many other tourist spots, Amberd has kept the spirit of ancient spirit and dignity.

The nature around is very picturesque in spring and autumn. The fortress itself looks majestic and mysterious against the background of this beauty. It's not for nothing that the movie "Bastards" was shot in these places. There is something to admire and enjoy visiting.
If you are going there as a tourist, it is advisable to combine it with a visit to the observatory, an anomalous place where the car seems to be rolling uphill in neutral and the mountain lake Kari. But in late autumn and very early spring, you can't get to the lake because of the snow.

An amazing place for its energy and beauty. But it's a very difficult narrow road through the mountains and the air is thin. Always take warm clothes with you. If you rent a car in Armenia, then this place is a must-visit, along with other attractions. More than 1000 years ago, people lived here, led an ordinary life, loved and prayed to the gods. But now it's just a ruin with an ancient temple. But the views are awesome. I recommend you to visit.

An ancient fortress at an altitude of 2,300 meters. Amazing views of the slopes of the gorge, overgrown with beautiful poppies, will not let you get bored all the way to the castle. The castle needs restoration, one of the towers has come off the wall and threatens to collapse onto a narrow path on the edge of a picturesque gorge with life-giving springs below. Be sure to have a thoughtful, leisurely visit lasting at least 45-50 minutes. It will bring indelible positive impressions)

It's a great place! It is very beautiful, large-scale and impressive.
It's not easy to get there by the serpentine, but it's worth it.
It was very nice to see the real antiquity and touch the history. Happy are those who can observe this beauty often.

A colorful fortress in a cool location. Keep in mind that the fortress itself is currently under repair and in fact you can only walk around. They don't mention anything about it at the checkout. At the same time, there is not much to do in the fortress itself, but it's fun to take a walk. At the moment, I advise you to go only if you have extra time

To be honest, the place is not worth such a long journey. The last half hour has been climbing up the dead road. The entrance fee is 1500 AMD, a child under 12 years old is free of charge. You can only get there by car. The fortress was destroyed in the Middle Ages, and only parts of the walls remained of it. Only the church is well preserved. Obviously, there was a settlement around, but no one is exploring anything. I do not recommend visiting

The walls of the castle, which is more than 1000 years old, are well preserved.
There is a beautiful church nearby, completely restored.
The building of an ancient bathhouse is also located on the territory of the complex.

It's a beautiful place, but you can't go inside the citadel itself. Our tour was very short, about 10 minutes from the balcony near the ticket office. And in November, you need to dress warmly here: it's very cold!

A nice and interesting place. High-quality walking area. As you drive, do not pass the place - the Armenian anamalia. The river is flowing uphill! I'm serious. I was even more impressed by it than the castle itself. By the way, the movie "Bastards" was shot right next to Ambert Castle.

It's a very beautiful place.
Amberd (arm. Ամբերդ ) is a historical complex on the slope of Mount Aragats in Armenia consisting of a castle of the VII century and a church of the XI century. It is located at an altitude of 2300 meters above sea level.
History
It is assumed that the castle was founded by the princes of Kamsarakan, then the castle passed into the possession of the Armenian military commander Vahram Pahlavuni. Subsequently, it was bought by the Armenian rulers of the Bagratuni dynasty, who turned the castle into the main outpost of their kingdom. The church in it was built in 1026.
The castle was first captured by the Seljuk Turks in the 11th century, and in 1236 the castle was finally destroyed by the Mongols.
Numerous underground passages led from the castle down into the gorge, some of which can still be found today. Also, there was a water supply system in Amberd, so far only a 4-kilometer part of it has been explored, the beginning has not yet been found.
Amberd Castle is located halfway to the peaks of Aragats in a beautiful gorge between two rivers.
The 3-storey palace occupied an area of about 1,500 sq. m. Despite the fact that the palace was partially destroyed, artifacts found during excavations indicate that the palace was richly decorated.

It's probably very beautiful, but we couldn't see it - we couldn't get through on December 31. At the last fork (castle/lake) there was a dense snowfall and several traces of unsuccessful attempts to pass it.
So it's worth bearing in mind that in winter this place may be inaccessible.

The history of the ages is before your eyes. The castle has not been restored yet, but its views already give an understanding that hundreds of years ago it was built forever. The Church provides peace for centuries. Just sit inside, close your eyes, feel the faith in your eyelids.
