On one income I saved diligently for many years to be able to afford going to Turkey to have full implants, I wanted to achieve smiling and talking directly without embarrassment, I wanted my confidence back! in November 2019 at Dishane all my teeth were removed and two were left which would be used as part of a bridge. I needed to have bone graft surgery, which was undertaken, but failed. I then returned to the UK without any temporary dentures! I wore a face mask for 9 months, pre covid and I was stared at constantly but told myself it was OK because one day I would have a full set of implants ahead of me. Covid arrived, I couldn't return to Turkey to complete the procedure, no flights and closed borders. My face mask became a semi permanent feature! In late 2021 I received an email from Dishane advising that their borders were now open and to return to the practice to complete the treatment! I booked flights and arrived in July. Their co-coordinator at that time went by the name of Mustapha who was supposed to arrange all appointments for either x rays taken by the local hospital (which I was asked to pay for) and dental appointments. In short I was told every other day that an appointment had been arranged, it has not. I was at that time a 62 year old woman travelling alone. The co coordinator gave excuse after excuse why an appointment hadn't been made i.e that the surgeon wasn't available on certain days, that there was a curfew due to covid etc. After a week of fearing the worst, that I had been duped, as i.had paid in full for the implantation in November 2019, he had obviously been paid his commission and really couldn't give a s@it! I then took it upon myself to book a taxi and go direct to Dishane. The nightmare began! They had no idea of an appointment which Mustapha apparently made. When I told the receptionist I had been in Turkey for over a week waiting to hear from Mustapha they had no idea! I give Dishane full credit as once they understood the position they completely took me under their wing. I had missed my flight home due to waiting, I would need to be in Turkey for at least a further 7 days for the implant treatments to be processed, they very kindly agreed to pay for the continued hotel accommodation, meals and a return flight ticket back to the UK. Hence for the next 5-6 days I was taken to Dishane to undergo the necessary procedures for implantation. Sadly due to their busy schedule as a local practice I was left sitting for hours on end until they could fit me in on a piecemeal basis. Which meant that when I was in the dental chair they overloaded me With invasive treatments required to get the job done. The day my implants were due to be fitted, I waited 5 hours for the dental laboratory to send over the porcelain teeth for final fitting. I was beyond exhausted due to the extensive treatments, to the point that i pretty much took myself away from my body, I was beyond exhausted as the treatments were intense, beyond what I have ever experienced, and I am a cancer survivor! Once the treatment was complete, all I could think of was getting home! But no I was told there would be one more small surgery to be undertaken, apparently a gum area needed stitches.....I said NO, no more I knew I had already pushed the limits of pain tolerance.....I was told it would be ok as no more treatment or surgery would be needed and i could go home the following day. So despite knowing I had already exhausted my tolerance levels I underwent the last piece of surgery. Once my gum area has been stitched I was given a prescription for pain killers. I left the clinic, crossed the road to the pharmacy where I suddenly felt blood in my mouth, looked down and saw my blouse.was.covered in blood, it wouldn't stop bleeding. I ran back to the clinic. In shock there was blood pouring from my mouth. I was out back in the chair, my head felt as if it was splitting in half. My blood pressure was taken which was dangerously high! An ambulance was called. I was in shock and I was on My own and scared. Once my blood pressure was under control I returned to my hotel knowing that tomorrow I would fly home. The following day I received a.text message from Mustapha, the co.coordinator asking me to pay a further £1,000 for the bone graft that was taken! He sent me his bank details, I spoke to the clinic .asking them.to confirm whether there was any outstanding balance due? They replied "no"! I returned his text message by saying that he owed me for the utter misery he put me through. So 4 years after the implants were installed I knew i should find a dentist in the UK.to check them and have them cleaned professionally, sadly no NHS dentist would look at implants having been done outside the UK. Therefore I had no choice but to.seek a private dental practice. bad news! The bottom implants are failing due to bone loss and the incorrect alignment of the implants. After having a thorough dental clean I was told that all the debris washed away was glue, cement and plaque. In short I was told "your implants were a rush job"..... The upper implants are
Probably salvagable although work will be needed to hide the abutment which protrudes s into the mouth! I now have to find, from God knows where £15,000 to rectify this complete mess. I don't have £15,000 so I'm looking to replace them with plastic dentures! I will be back to hiding my teeth, no smile and broken self confidence all over again.
