Prison Museum (new prison). The prison Museum of Yevle consists of two parts. The prison of the XVIII century is represented in one of the buildings of the castle of Yevle. The 19th-century prison is located in a building built in 1847 on the site of the castle garden, on Hamilton Street. (In 1719, the governor of Yevle, the Scotsman Hamilton, successfully repelled an attack on the city by a Russian landing force under the command of the Irishman Lassi.) The "Philadelphia" system of punishment was used - the prisoner was kept in silence and isolation, where he had to reflect on the crimes committed. The cameras were 2x3 meters in size. They were well lit, and there were three dark punishment cells. The prison was used for its intended purpose until 1986. The museum was established in 1996. There is a strange sculpture called "Human Freedom" in the courtyard of the prison.
