Museums in Georgia are overpriced and I always get out of them very disappointed. The National Gallery of Georgia develops over two levels and, while one might still find it interesting to have a look, it is really difficult to understand how can such a lively country with sunny landscapes, good food and nice people, can produce this art which is made mainly of grotesque figures, or depressive portraits of the city or the people.

We visited the gallery in April 2025. The entrance fee is GEL 25. Everything is neat and civil inside, but the exposure is weak, to put it mildly. The ground floor is completely empty, with 3 large, almost empty halls of contemporary art.
The exposition on the second floor is rather sparse, it took us about 20 minutes to complete the entire gallery. Is this really all that can be imagined in the National Gallery?

The ground floor consists of the ruins of buildings from the 7th to 13th centuries, on the 2nd floor there are Georgian hudodniks (including Pirosmani), on the 3rd floor there are old Dutch. There are decent and interesting paintings, but the exposition is small, the ticket is 40 GEL. And the facade facing Freedom Square needs to be repaired.
