On the site of ancient Pamphylia, in the village of Elikesik, which is located northwest of the city of Alanya, there is an architectural monument Hamaksia.
There is little reliable information about the city – the first mention belongs to the ancient writer Strabo, who could not name Hamaxia a city, but described in detail the cedar trees, of which there were so many that it was enough to build ships. Later, the lands were donated to Cleopatra.
Currently, the remains of observation towers and city walls that protected the settlement from enemy capture are well preserved. Fragments of the church and details of civil and religious buildings are visible, on which inscriptions in ancient Greek remain. There are many inscriptions, but Roman names are quite rare.
In the northwestern part of the city there is a necropolis, which is located outside the city walls and has quite a lot of tombs. The excavations of this place brought archaeologists a large number of vessels for ashes, which helped to understand how the burial ceremony was conducted in those days.
