The views from the fortress are very beautiful, especially in summer. Looking at the green carpet of forests and mountains, one gets the impression of an undulating sea frozen in an instant.
The fortress itself is so ancient that only hints of its former greatness and importance remain. And the affordable bus ride from the city makes the place very popular.
What I highly recommend is to take a walking route from Azeula to Asureti. On the way, you can meet high waterfalls and visit 14th-century churches.

I really like this place, it offers stunning views.
It is not necessary to climb the fortress itself, the view is almost the same as below.
To reach the attraction, you need to climb 300 meters, but the sight is worth it.
Although there are extremes that drive right up to the fortress in ordinary sedans.

A magical place. The view is beautiful. We managed to cope with a child of 6 years old. Carefully on the metal ladder. There is no protection against breakage, be careful, and be extremely careful.

Kojori Fortress, built in the Middle Ages, was a strategically important defensive structure. It served as a defense against numerous invasions and attacks, due to its advantageous location at an altitude offering panoramic views of the surrounding area. The fortress witnessed many historical events and battles that shaped the fate of Georgia.

The feeling of suddenness.
Just now we were climbing from a dirt road on a rather steep, but smooth slope and - two powerful boulders, shifted so much that it is difficult to slip between them without finding handholds ... and behind them metal ladders falling down and rising up to the entrance to it. To the fortress. Even its remains (not ruins, but the remains of ruins) bear the signs of a fortress. The absence of fences adds special sharpness, in addition to the remnants of external and internal walls, and, moving, you feel that there is an abyss in one and a half meters.
360 degree overview. The view goes to the Greater Caucasus. Views - you can't take your eyes off. Overhead, white trails of contrails of aircraft, almost parallel. Some draw right in front of your eyes. There are no sounds, the skin is cold from the wind, you feel the valley and the slopes with your eyes, involuntarily remembering the observers of a thousand years ago. Standing on this very spot…

It's an amazing place. Much better than expected. It's very good for a free facility. Beautiful views of the area from the fortress.
A steep atmospheric metal staircase over a cliff. Atmospheric passages between rocks.
A heroic place.
Great for a picnic or a walk.

A great place near Tbilisi with beautiful views and interesting history. Few cars, few people. Other names of the fortress are Agarata or Kojor fortress.
Middle Ages.
It is located on the outskirts of the village of the same name. Nearby is a monument to the cadets who died in 1921 in the fight against the Red Army.
According to the chronicle, the seriously ill Queen Tamara spent several months here.
Today it is the ruins of a castle. You can drive up by car, then walk up the hill, then up metal stairs to the top of the mountain.
Enjoy the views of Tbilisi, Shida Kartli and the Caucasus Mountains. You can get to the fortress and visit several other historical sites nearby on a day trip from Tbilisi.
