When it was taken away by the Romans, an eight-meter wall was erected here. And now it's a completely different era here.

It's hard to imagine that almost two thousand years ago there was a real Roman garrison here. And even more impressive is that it still looks better than some of the modern buildings of the city. The locals don't seem to notice these grandiose ruins. Although, as for me, this should be almost the main object of the city.

But there was the XV Legion Apollinaris (Legio XV Apollinaris Pia Fidelis), a Roman legion formed by Emperor Octavian in 41 or 40 BC. The last mention of it dates back to the beginning of the 5th century. And he stood there for a long time, not even decades. And the traces of the legion in Pitsunda are minimal... Surprisingly.

The visit to the ancient fortress of the Romans and Byzantines just shocked me - there is a huge amount of architectural and cultural heritage of mankind here, just like in Istanbul! Just a delight! The Church of St. Andrew the First-Called is beautiful inside, and it is already 1,500 years old! Builders are geniuses! Nearby is a museum that describes the history of Pitiunt from the Greek colonists, baths, mosaics, tools and plans. That's what I mean by civilization!

There's nothing to look at. The monument is not accompanied by any signs or signs. The excavations seem to have been conducted in Soviet times, and that's why he was abandoned. In fact, it is huge and could be the Pitsunda Chersonese, but it will not be in the coming years. Maybe for the best, it will remain for future generations of archaeologists. I tried to walk along the perimeter of the wall, but residential buildings begin from the north and the wall is completely overgrown, blackberry bushes and nettles must be cut through in thick clothes, so I gave up.
It's a pity, I would really like to see a good museum here. It's not a pity to give money for such a monument.
