It's a very beautiful place. Despite the fact that the temple was destroyed and the altar part was almost not preserved, there is a certain peace and quiet there. It is located in the old cemetery. It is made of stone very similar to tuff, and therefore slightly gloomy in appearance. Locals call it the Greek Church. It helps with orientation.

The basilica is located at the cemetery. Being in these ruins, you experience some kind of awe of the eternal, isolation from the hustle and bustle of the world and at the same time does not leave a feeling of banal abandonment, if not a dump. Vacation in Abkhazia is an incomparable pleasure, spiritual ecstasy! We stayed in the small village of Tsandripsh, 4 km from the Russian border. This temple is located there. Surrounded by cypresses, climbing plants, an old cemetery. Once this building was amazingly white in color, it reflected the sun's rays, and was visible far out to sea, because it was built, like many old buildings from karz rocks, and this is a familiar limestone! If you read the history of Tsandripsh, then once it was the capital of something, like many settlements in Abkhazia, it was called Gandhiadi under the Georgians, and you can find several more names. The temple impresses with its domed vault, arches of windows, and simply the fact that it has survived, even candles can be placed. There is an altar. It is protected by the state. This is an ancient Orthodox church, I accidentally wandered there, but then I came several times, the place is strong, attracts, many people come there, light candles, pray, bring things for the poor, clothes, shoes.. People buy candles and matches themselves and bring them there. The temple is of course in a terrible state, ruins.. A major restoration is needed.

Figs and other plants are making their way through the masonry of ancient bricks, birds know what to do... Well, cleanliness is maintained by local residents as much as possible. You will not see ancient icons there, but there are more or less modern ones that you can touch and if you are a believer, you can put candles for health and rest purchased at the local market...

Nearby is a cemetery strewn with garbage from the outside, fresh burials (this is next to the sea and the beach), Tsandripsh itself is a bad place to relax, there is nothing to do - the beach is dirty, the coast is in the solarium from scooters, the local population is very unfriendly, I do not advise you to go, I supplement the review 03.04.2024 - there is a real environmental disaster here - everywhere on the poor dead dolphins on the shore, obviously fishing off the coast of Abkhazia, Turkish fishing vessels threw something toxic and poisonous into the sea, they talk about cases of loss of life! Think about whether it is possible to swim in this sea!

The main historical monument of the district, one of the most interesting architectural monuments of Abkhazia, is a temple built in the Byzantine era: in 534 on the site of an older complex. This temple became one of the first in Transcaucasia. Now the temple stands in the center of the village of Tsandripsh right on the main Oktyabrskaya street, although it is closed by thickets and can not be noticed, about 60 m. west of the central square of Tsandripsh. I really enjoyed my vacation in Abkhazia. They lived in the village of Tsandripsh. Everything is fine. There is a market, pharmacies, cafes, a souvenir shop nearby. Not far from the Russian border. You can go to Adler for a walk and come back for lunch. The local population is friendly, the nature is stupid. The sea is clear. There is no special entertainment, but you can take a break from the hustle and bustle of big cities.

We were there for the first time and the second time when we lived in a hotel almost on the territory of this basilica- cemetery. Yes, yes, you heard right. The basilica is an ancient temple part of the old Abkhazian cemetery. This temple is one and a half thousand years old, but like everything old in this country, the soul is left on its own and is subject to terrible destruction. Actually, three walls and a minaret remain of the basilica, everything is subject to the most terrible erosion and destruction. Therefore, hurry up to see such an ancient temple, otherwise in a few years everything will sink into the summer like the rest of the architectural monuments of the area, which the local aborigines do not even try to preserve.
