A great place with a rich history. You can climb the Golden Gate, which offers a beautiful view of the city and the Marmara Sea with ships going into the horizon.
In general, this is the category of attractions that, although not popular (too far from Sultanahmet, although there is a tram that can be reached in 25 minutes. And if you decide to walk from Sultanahmet to the fortress 1-1.5 hours on foot, you can also see the "non-parade" Istanbul)., but it is actively being restored and has good information support. In this regard, it was very reminiscent of our Izborsk in the Pskov region.
The price is more than affordable - 250 liras for 1 adult on 03.09.24.
Tourists 1.5 people.

The complex is interesting, the price is affordable (250 liras in February 2025). Some fragments of the fortress are closed for restoration. When you climb the tower, the view of the sea and the city is magnificent. I recommend visiting this museum. The only thing is, it's not clear why there's a huge black stone hanging, but maybe it's not a stone.

You can walk from Fatiha for 45-50 minutes.
Or get from Sirkeci by train in 20-25 minutes.
It has been restored well.
The entire exhibition has not been designed yet, but it is already interesting to see.

This is a significant place for the Slavs. Here is the Golden Gate, through which Oleg the Prophetic entered the city. A shield was painted over the gate. According to legend, the Savior will enter through the Golden Gate. To prevent this from happening, the Ottomans ordered the gates to be walled up, the bridge destroyed, and a Muslim cemetery was located opposite across the moat. To see these gates, you have to go around the fortress, the entrance is from the Marmara Sea, climb through the cemetery, there is no passage, you have to make your way. The moat still exists

Reconstruction is underway, but it is open to the public. The cost is 250 lire, they give you a booklet. I love such objects. There are practically no people, the views are amazing, on the sea, on the city, very atmospheric!
It is better to go in the daytime, because the area is not tourist, near a cemetery, car repairs, car disassembly, vegetable gardens of local residents, a bus stop that goes to the city center, one cafe like a local tea-coffee sandwich.

It's a beautiful place! There are guided tours in the evenings, during which you climb one of the towers. There may be a strong wind, so it's better to dress warmly. Nevertheless, the view of the city is just wonderful! Flashlights are provided before the tour begins. Restorations are underway in some places on the castle grounds, but the overall impression has not deteriorated.

The renovated old fortress, which used to be the main gate to Constantinople. It was here that the famous Golden Gate was located. Today it is an underrated attraction, where there are no crowds of tourists. I recommend not only visiting the fortress, but also wandering around - the area is very colorful.

At the moment, 02/6/2025, there is nothing to do here. Everything is under restoration. Apparently, they have grandiose plans for the winter, but then why not just close it. One plus: there were no people at all! That's it, nothing else. Maybe you should come here in the summer, but if you don't go anywhere in the winter. Indeed, everything is closed, just to look at the courtyard. And honestly, for just looking at the beautiful lawn and walls. Which you can't even approach, it's expensive, even 250lir.

The emperor of Eastern Rome, who valued architecture, II. The fortress built by Theodosius is located on the coastal road from Sarayburnu to Bakırköy. During the reign of Theodosius, when the sea walls were built against the attacks from the Marmara Sea, this triumphal arch was turned into a gate and named the Golden Gate.
After the conquest, Fatih Sultan Mehmed Khan repaired the walls and built three additional towers here, and the fortress had 7 towers in total. Oct. Yedikule, which gave its name to the district with the completion of the construction of the towers in 1457, acquires the appearance of an inner castle today.

We visited this castle museum in early April 2024.
I really liked it! The entrance is only 100 liras, while in addition to the castle itself, you can also go upstairs and admire the beautiful panorama of Istanbul.
There are still few tourists. The castle is under reconstruction, I think over time it will be "promoted" and there will be noticeably more tourists.
Another plus is the relative proximity to the center. From Yenikapi and back we walked 4 km along a beautiful and deserted promenade.
But you can also get there by train.

I was very pleasantly surprised. I thought it was just another cold stone, but I was wrong. The atmospheric place of Istanbul. You can climb the wall, walk along stone passages that are hundreds of years old and at the end have a coffee on the lawn in the center of this historical monument. It is mandatory to visit.

We were in September 2023. The price is 100 liras. 4 towers are open to the public. Round Turkish towers are empty inside. Square Byzantine tower at the Golden Gate in the inside with filling. Wooden decks and ladders. Ascent to the decks is prohibited. But there are no guards. We got up.
The ascent to the walls is closed for security reasons. High and there is no railing. The ascent to the Golden Gate Towers is open. Inside the Byzantine tower there is a stone staircase. There are two guardhouses along the way.

Yedikule Castle is an interesting museum where you can learn the history of Istanbul. The fortress was built by the Ottomans in 1458, and once housed a prison. We visited the museum, examined the torture chambers and saw the remains of decorations on the gates. There are thick walls inside, and the atmosphere of the fortress is felt.
