The Vaxholm Town Hall was built in 1884-1885. In 1925, it was rebuilt and decorated with a lantern on the roof. At various times, the building housed the town hall, the post office, the pre-trial detention cell, the mayor's office, and various public utilities. The tourist office is currently located here. The square in front of the town hall is called very simply "The Square" (Toryet). There are simply no other squares in tiny Vaxholm. There is a police station nearby.
