One of the central and well-known tourist attractions in Istanbul, showing the way diplomacy and international relations were happening centuries ago.

The German Fountain (German: Deutscher Brunnen, tour. Alman Çeşmesi) is one of the most beautiful and most famous sights of Istanbul, located on the historic Sultanahmet Square, opposite the Blue Mosque and not far from the Hagia Sophia. Here are the basic facts about the German Fountain: 1. History and origin: The fountain was donated by the German Empire to the Ottoman Empire in memory of the second visit of German Kaiser Wilhelm II to Istanbul in 1898. It was a symbol of German-Ottoman friendship and the strengthening of diplomatic ties between the two empires. 2. Architecture and style: The fountain is made in the neo-Byzantine style, which combines eastern and Western elements. It has the shape of an octagonal gazebo (rotunda) topped with a dome. The dome is supported by eight porphyry columns. Inside the dome there are mosaic decorations and monograms of Kaiser Wilhelm II and Sultan Abdul Hamid II. 3. Construction and opening: The fountain was designed by German architect Spyros Kayser, as well as craftsmen Schultz, Hopp and Gernitz. Its parts were made in Germany, and then transported to Istanbul by sea and assembled at its current location. The official opening of the fountain took place on January 27, 1901, on the birthday of Kaiser Wilhelm II. 4. Symbolism: The fountain became an important symbol of the alliance between Germany and the Ottoman Empire, which later led to their alliance in World War I. 5. Location: Its central location on Sultanahmet Square makes it an easily accessible and popular destination for tourists. It fits perfectly into the historical ensemble of the square, surrounded by such masterpieces as the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia and the ancient Hippodrome. The German Fountain is not only an excellent example of architecture, but also recalls the rich history of Istanbul as an intersection of different cultures and influences.

The beautiful German fountain is a place of attraction, it is definitely impossible to pass by. I want to stop and look at every little thing, the vault, the patterns, and of course take a photo as a keepsake.

Actually, it's not really a fountain, but rather a column with seven taps. It's a very elegant column, though. A beautiful gift from the German Ottoman Empire. All components are made in Germany, but assembled in Istanbul. But there was a problem with the opening - they wanted to do it for the 25th anniversary of the sultan's reign in 1900, but they opened it only in 1901 for the birthday of Emperor William II. The water is drinkable there, by the way

A beautiful historical monument in the heart of Istanbul! The German fountain, donated to the city by Kaiser Wilhelm II, impresses with its elegant architecture and unusual style for Istanbul. It is located on Sultanahmet Square, next to the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia, so it is easy to find. The fountain is small but very beautiful, especially in the evening when the lights turn on. A great place for photos and a short stop during a walk through the historic center. If you're around, be sure to pay attention to him! The only negative is that sometimes there are a lot of tourists around, but this is not surprising in such a popular place. In general, I recommend it!

This monument was a gift to the Ottoman Empire from the German Emperor William, it embodied friendly relations between the two countries. Once upon a time, this fountain was vital for the residents of the city, because it supplied them with water. It is now a favorite place to make appointments, especially for those who have strayed from the group or want to be alone with their loved one.

A very beautiful monument next to Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque. The German fountain was installed in the 19th century in front of the mausoleum of Sultan Ahmed I in Istanbul. This is a gift from German Kaiser Wilhelm II to Sultan Abdul Hamid II and the residents of the Turkish capital, brought during his friendly visit to the city. The fountain was designed by German architect M. Spittoy, and the construction was supervised by architect Schele. Every detail, from the delicate porphyry columns to the golden mosaics inside the dome, was made in Germany and then shipped to Istanbul for subsequent assembly. The fountain has become a friendly gesture expressing hopes for cooperation, as well as a symbol of ambitious plans and a complex political game.

Beautiful gazebo in the heart of Istanbul. Most tourists are unaware of its real name, believing that it is some kind of Ottoman or Muslim shrine. In fact, everything is very prosaic. The German fountain was donated by Germany in honor of the visit of Emperor William. Today it is an object for photographs. No matter how much I went, the water from the taps never flowed. Very beautiful.

The German fountain is the "heart" of the Racetrack, I would say so:) it is active, not in the usual sense of the word fountain, but with a lot of taps, for the opportunity to take a bath and refresh yourself in the heat. As a rule, if you book an excursion in the Fatiha area, the gathering place will be right here, as many attractions are within easy reach from here.

The fountain is located on the territory of Sultanahmet Square. It's a very beautiful structure, unusual for a fountain. There are many attractions here. It is better to visit in the morning, while there are no crowds of tourists. Otherwise, all photos will be with strangers.

Another unusual fountain in the very center of Istanbul. Against the general background, the concentration of historical values is simply lost in them. Yes, by the standards of history, generally a new model.

The German Fountain in Istanbul is a cultural and historical treasure that embodies the rich history of the city. Here is my review: Positive: 1. Beauty and architecture: The German fountain, built in 1900, impresses with its exquisite architecture and decorative elements. It is an excellent example of the neoclassical style. 2. Location: The fountain is located in the very center of the historical part of Istanbul, which makes it easily accessible to tourists and travelers. 3. Historical value: The German Fountain has a connection with important events and historical figures, such as Herman II and his visit to Istanbul. Minuses: 1. Limited opening hours: The fountain may not always be accessible to the public, as its operation is limited to certain hours. 2. Limited opportunities for interaction: Since this is a historical monument, visitors are not always allowed to get close to the fountain. The general conclusion: The German Fountain in Istanbul is a beautiful and historically important architectural object. It is worth visiting in order to enjoy its beauty and learn more about its historical significance. However, be prepared for the fact that access to the fountain may be limited and it may be closed at some hours.

The German Fountain is a square fountain that attracts the eyes with its different architecture, built in 1900 in a very central location, such as Sultanahmet Square, the heart of Dersaadet, and opened in 1901 with the participation of German authorities. As well as being the center of the place where it was built, it also stands in an important place in terms of our recent history. Because it became a symbol of an extremely important period in terms of Ottoman-German relations during the period leading to the alliance in the First World War. The German Emperor II. During the second of Wilhelm's visits to the Ottoman lands, Sultan II. It was richly commissioned by the Emperor with very valuable materials, as a souvenir of his interview with Abdulhamid and the Ottoman-German friendship, and presented to the people of Istanbul as a gift. In this sense, although it was expressed as a souvenir of a visit or as a gift to the people of Dersaadet, in fact, the fountain had a great political meaning. II. Wilhelm's insistence that the fountain be built on Sultanahmet Square, which is considered the center of Istanbul, was an indication of this. The fountain had the purpose of perpetuating the visit of the German Emperor, and it would not be wrong to say that it has achieved this goal even today from the position it is in.

Presented by William II to the Turkish ruler in honor of the twenty-fifth anniversary of the reign of the Ottoman Sultan, as a sign of friendship of peoples. There is no water in the fountain, but it looks beautiful. It is located on the same territory as St. Sophia and the Blue Mosque. I hardly waited for no one to sit on the steps))

The German fountain was donated to the Ottoman Empire by Germany in memory of Kaiser Wilhelm II's second visit to Istanbul in 1898. There used to be a horse racing racetrack on this square, as well as a fountain and obelisks. When we were there, the fountain was no longer working.

Sultanahmet square and its surroundings are an excellent historical sightseeing area for domestic and foreign tourists, The historical square has always been popular for centuries and is always visited by an influx of visitors, It may be insufficient for 1 day to walk around the area in detail, it is difficult to walk around with children and the elderly, Areas to visit around the square; Topkapi Palace Blue Mosque and mausoleum Hagia Sophia Mosque and museum Turkish Islamic history museum The German fountain and the columns Basilica cistern Many historical buildings and museums large and small can be visited Due to the fact that the parking area is very limited in the vicinity, it is more convenient to come without a car, the tram is the most suitable option as a public transport There are many options for eating and drinking in the environment I recommend to visit the area
