For convenience:
1. Rent a guest house on the territory of the old town - it is convenient and very atmospheric.
2. Purchase a single excursion ticket to view all the sights of Khiva. Attention! The ticket is valid for 24 hours!!!
3. Be sure to use the services of a guide - there are a lot of them there. Without it, nothing will be clear to you.

I strongly advise you to go here if you are in Bukhara. And it's better to take a guide right there at the checkout. There are many museums of local lore inside, where they will tell you about everyday life, flora and fauna..You can also see the ruins. If it's sunny, take a cream, you can roast there while walking around the excavations.

There is a beautiful legend about the origin of the fortress. According to her, the Ark was built by Siyavush, the son of the ruler, who was exiled thanks to the efforts of his stepmother. The epic hero reached a prosperous city, meeting there a beautiful girl who captured his heart. She turned out to be the daughter of the ruler of Afrosiab, and he did not want to marry his daughter to Siyavush at all. The ruler set him a difficult task – to build a palace on one bull's hide. The young man outwitted the Afrosiab by cutting the skin into thin strips and connecting them together. Inside this perimeter, Siyavush built the promised palace. According to legend, this is how the Ark originated.

Being in Uzbekistan and not visiting Bukhara is a big mistake. It is a crime to be in Bukhara and not visit the Ark citadel.
