The descent into the cellars of the Pommery is 116 steps down into a world that is hundreds of years old. These Cretaceous quarries were dug by the Romans, extracting stone for construction. Huge carved barrels from the 19th century are installed in the niches of the cellars, each holding 100,000 bottles! The carvings depict scenes of grape harvest, bacchanalia, and mythological subjects. Madame Pommery started a tradition that lives on to this day.
