Mostly Italians who have summer apartments in this place spend their holidays in Ostia. There are not many hotels in Ostia and they are all far from all inclusive, so we went there. The sea is clean, the sandy beach with a smooth entrance is shallow and calm, so there are many families with children. It is better to relax on private beaches - it is convenient and safe, although there are quite a lot of people on free beaches. We were at Marechiaro and Battistini, the 2nd option is definitely the best. There is a good selection of restaurants, the seafood is great and the prices are quite low.

Excellent beaches in Lido di Ostia, sand, clean sea, shallow bottom, protection from waves all over, good bars with music on the beaches, showers, toilets, a special machine sifts the sand. It is convenient to stop at the Lido, swim in the sea and take the metro to Rome for 1.5 euros, the town itself is blooming, it is nice to walk in the evening - a real resort, there is a luna park

After Rome, life in the seaside Lido di Ostia seems to slow down to the pace of adagio. The local dolce vita is perfectly personified by pensioners: they drink their espresso in a minute, and then they can spend an hour discussing every sip of it. It is the 10th municipality of Rome. So you can get from anywhere in Rome by metro with a transfer to the train at Piramida station using one regular 100-minute ticket for 1.5 euros. Drive to the Lido Centro station.Further walking distance is 700 meters and beaches and small fish restaurants are at your disposal. The journey will take less than an hour.
