The story of Shahi Zinda has always raised many questions. Mysteries and riddles are connected with this monument, most of which belong to the name of the complex "The Living Tsar". All this is connected with the name of the uncle of the Prophet Muhammad – Kussama ibn Abbas. There are several legends about his death.
The most common legend says that during the battle with the pagans, Qussama ibn Abbas received a mortal wound. Some legends say that his head was cut off, while others speak of an arrow wound. But they all agree that during the battle, the spirit of the holy Hazret Khizr descended to the mortally wounded Qussama ibn Abbas and helped him leave the battlefield. Hazret Khizr placed Kussama ibn Abbas in the Shaaban well, where, after drinking the living water, he recovers and receives immortality. Hence the name "The Living King". It's a very beautiful place.

A magnificent historical monument, the mausoleums date from the 11th to the 18th century. Where the decoration is simple, where it is magnificent, it takes 1 ... 1.5 hours to get around them.

I liked it, although I really don't like steep stairs with high steps!A bunch of beautiful buildings-mausoleums, of course, little remains of antiquity, everything has been restored. And be sure to have a guide to understand where you are, who built it, who is buried and why.In general, there is an amazing sense of beauty and grandeur, there is not even a feeling that this is a burial place.

You can describe it in words, but it's best to see it! The impressions are indelible. But this is only a small part of what can be discovered by archaeologists in the future. But One Thing! If you are going to Samarkand, take care of transportation in advance! You need to buy tickets for the express train that will take you to Samarkand, Navoi and Bukhara in more than two hours in advance! You can take the bus, but it will take you more than five hours!

The ancient Memorial complex has a history of about 600 years. An amazing beautiful mosaic of ancient masters and architects, guides for a small fee will tell the story of the creation of the complex, as well as who exactly is buried there.

A colorful complex. It resembles a part of a small town. Very interesting. Crypts with graves (of course, without bodies, most likely). There are fragments of ancient mosaics on the walls. Like it. I recommend you to visit.

Very, very impressive. Be sure to check out the legend) related to the stairs! At the very beginning of the complex, visitors can see a 40-step staircase that embodies the path of repentance and prayers. The legend associated with it is still alive in the hearts of people. This is the case when it is better to see than to hear.

Very beautiful. Unfortunately, without a guide, you can only enjoy the beauty. There is practically no information about the monuments.
Unfortunately, before the 1930s, everything was in ruins, so most of the domes and cladding are new, and apparently not historically authentic. The quality of the restoration also raises questions.
However, it is absolutely worth a visit

It is a historically significant place in the history of Uzbekistan, and a place for hundreds of Muslims to travel every day. The entire ensemble is made by various craftsmen and you can see many styles of construction. I advise everyone who will be in Samarkand. And always take a guide, the money they charge for their services is ridiculous, but it's very interesting to listen to them.

I am very reluctant to visit necropolises and mausoleums, but Samarkand has changed my views in some ways. If Gur-Emir visited with some caution, so as not to disturb the spirit of the great Tamerlane in any way, by chance, then the necropolis of Shahi-Zinda was considered as a unique museum of glazed decoration of the XIV - XV centuries. Here you can see watered carved terracotta, set mosaics and mosaics of watered bricks. It is believed, and I fully agree with this, that in terms of subtlety, elegance and variety of forms, this is the best architectural example of Samarkand.
