Who think they've bought their own lives. Indian taxi drivers who look at you like you're a walking ATM. The waiters are Filipinos who smile at you as if you are their liberator. Villas. Huge, tasteless. It was as if every owner was trying to outdo their neighbor. Pools, palm trees, cars… And the emptiness. Inside. Beaches. Artificial sand, artificial waves. Restaurants. Expensive, pretentious. As if food is more important than taste here. You're sitting there watching the sunset. It's beautiful, of course. But... not the real thing. It's like looking at a painting rather than reality. Island. Artificial. Just like everyone else here. And the people who come here are also artificial. They are trying to escape from themselves, from their lives. But where will you run to if you are you? Palm Jumeirah. This is not heaven. It's a decoration. And behind the scenery there is emptiness. And there's nothing to fill that void. No money, no villas, no beaches. Nothing.
