The Nicoreni Monastery is a monastery for men, located 12 km west of the river Droki, in the village of Nicoreni, about 180 km from Chisinau. The monastery was founded by Abbot Archimandrite Rafael Bodu, in the summer of 1992, on the territory of a former camp for children, built in 1975, and closed in 1991. The complex consists of two groups of houses and buildings. In 1994, the buildings were renovated and consecrated. The former dining room has been transformed into a church in honor of Our Lady of Portarita. Rooms were also built here for monks and pilgrims coming from faraway places to take part in the divine services conducted by Father Raphael. The construction of the summer church dedicated to the Holy Prophet Elijah was started in 1993, and within five years the first level was raised. The summer church will be built in the Russian style, combined with the local style, and will consist of two levels, each level has three altars. In 1996, the construction of a room for the kitchen began, and in the summer of 1998, the trapeze was painted in the Byzantine style. The monastery also houses an impressive library consisting of religious literature, canon and liturgical books, entirely in Russian.
