The Chapel of Penance (Chapel of Atonement, Chapel of atonement for the execution of Louis XVI) in the VIII arrondissement of Paris. Address: 29, rue Pasquier. The chapel was erected in the center of the Place Louis XVI, on the site of the former Madeleine cemetery, where victims of the French Revolution were buried, including the bodies of King Louis XVI and Queen Marie Antoinette. The construction of the chapel was started in 1815 by order of King Louis XVIII and completed in 1826. On July 22, 1914, the chapel was listed as a historical monument in France.
