The sculpture of Apollo on the facade of the National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theater in Minsk is a five—meter bronze figure, which was installed after a large-scale reconstruction of the building, completed in 2009. Apollo is depicted with two wreaths in his hands, being the patron saint of the arts, surrounded by nymphs and muses — Melpomene (traditionally the muse of tragedy) and Terpsichore (the muse of dance). The sculpture weighs about 6-7 tons and is the central part of the ensemble on the facade of the theater. The creation of this work was carried out by a team of Belarusian sculptors: Gennady Buralkin, Alexander Finsky and Mikhail Shkrobot. Initially, it was planned to decorate the facade with only four muses, but then a sculpture of Apollo with nymphs was added. Work on this ensemble has been going on since 2006, and the Apollo itself was made quite quickly — in about a month. This sculpture crowns the building, which is located on Troitskaya Gora, and has become one of the symbols of the theater and Belarusian art in general. At the same time, the artistic community discusses how kenotypic its placement is from the point of view of the architectural style of the original building, made in constructivism.
