The Lycian coast is full of ancient cities. But Xanthos (or Xanthos) has its own unique flair. And, it seems, there is nothing special here at first glance: the same, even more lopsided and not particularly restored arena, and a lot of stones, but ... After reading the history of the city, penetrating it, and adding a drop of imagination, you see a majestic city that once flourished and was of great importance. Climbing the steps of the arena, you can imagine yourself among a large crowd eager for the spectacle, and going downstairs, you imagine yourself as a frightened slave (or gladiator) who is forced to fight for his life. Can you imagine that wild animals were released from this western rostrum, which shed their blood and the blood of their victims. When you get on stage, you feel like a speaker among the torches performing Homer's works, and the crowd applauds you. Walking further down the main street, through the marble columns, seeing the remains of the mosaic under your feet, you realize how majestic and beautiful it was here. To your right and left were artisan shops selling their wares. Going further, behind the theater, you come across a large reservoir, and then, seeing that drainpipes lead to it, you understand the idea of the architects of the past: this is a water storage tank. Next, you see a rich house: you understand this by the fact that there is a small swimming pool in a large space and immediately imagine how some, perhaps even patricians, spent their time in this courtyard. Walking down through the city, you see a wall with two alcoves and assume that there were statues of Artemis and Apollo: the children of Leto, in whose honor the city of Xanthos was built and who were revered in it. Of course, this is all my fantasy, but what if it was really like that?) in general, no matter what, I strongly advise you to take a walk and fantasize about the ruins of the ancient city.

The amphitheater and acropolis are a very beautiful place. We spent 2-3 hours. Conveniently located near the autobahn stop by the road. Admission is free. Be sure to schedule a visit if you will be in Patara, Kasha or Gınık. The facility is in good condition, the turtles are on site, there are shields in English.
