Another beautiful but very ruined ancient city of Xanthos, it is worth visiting and admiring the beauty of the ancient city, the ancient theater, tombs and part of the stadium have been preserved, admission is 70 lira.

The amphitheater and acropolis are a very beautiful place. We spent 2-3 hours. Conveniently located near the autobahn stop by the road. Admission is free. Be sure to schedule a visit if you will be in Patara, Kasha or Gınık. The facility is in good condition, the turtles are on site, there are shields in English.

I recommend you to visit, the amphitheater is well preserved! Cards are not accepted at the checkout, only cash lira, dollars and euros can be exchanged in the next window of the exchanger, the exchange rate is not profitable.

The Lycian coast is full of ancient cities. But Xanthos (or Xanthos) has its own unique flair. And, it seems, there is nothing special here at first glance: the same, even more lopsided and not particularly restored arena, and a lot of stones, but ... After reading the history of the city, penetrating it, and adding a drop of imagination, you see a majestic city that once flourished and was of great importance. Climbing the steps of the arena, you can imagine yourself among a large crowd eager for the spectacle, and going downstairs, you imagine yourself as a frightened slave (or gladiator) who is forced to fight for his life. Can you imagine that wild animals were released from this western rostrum, which shed their blood and the blood of their victims. When you get on stage, you feel like a speaker among the torches performing Homer's works, and the crowd applauds you. Walking further down the main street, through the marble columns, seeing the remains of the mosaic under your feet, you realize how majestic and beautiful it was here. To your right and left were artisan shops selling their wares. Going further, behind the theater, you come across a large reservoir, and then, seeing that drainpipes lead to it, you understand the idea of the architects of the past: this is a water storage tank. Next, you see a rich house: you understand this by the fact that there is a small swimming pool in a large space and immediately imagine how some, perhaps even patricians, spent their time in this courtyard. Walking down through the city, you see a wall with two alcoves and assume that there were statues of Artemis and Apollo: the children of Leto, in whose honor the city of Xanthos was built and who were revered in it. Of course, this is all my fantasy, but what if it was really like that?) in general, no matter what, I strongly advise you to take a walk and fantasize about the ruins of the ancient city.

A very spectacular small town and a well-preserved arena. There are still mosaics on the floors in the city. There are signs. It's written clearly. I recommend

The ruins of an ancient Greek city. The archaeologists have done a good job, but there is still a lot of unknown. It's a very impressive place. We recommend you to visit.

There is very little preservation of the place, if you look at it, then only at the amphitheater. We found a lot of mushrooms and a turtle on the territory. It's a quiet enough place to walk in the winter months, but I wasn't impressed.

!!! It was 09/14/2021 - the museum was not working, tickets are not being sold. According to the employee, it was closed due to fires for a month or two, it is not known for sure. This employee "allows" to see the ruins only from the parking lot, although here they are - an amphitheater is already across the path, but you can't look from the road, he whistles 😅

Well, of course the temple is beautiful, I was there 3 months ago, it impressed me. We stopped there on the way to Fethiye. Well, the ancient city is very big, there are few of them. A very good temple!!

Of course, it was a little disappointing after seeing the larger, more robust, better preserved ancient cities, but it can be stopped by for those who don't want to say that they haven't seen it.. Note: The Museum Card is valid..

It's a huge and really big city. You don't have to arrive before sunset like we did, because we only walked part of the way, then the sun went down and it got so dark that you couldn't see anything at all, not even the road. As it is, this is a great place to wander through the antiquities. And you can get there by car without any problems.

On the one hand, there is no inherent beauty of the Potara in this city. But this is also a plus . The city appears to us as English archaeologists left it after they removed everything from their point of view, the most valuable or what they could not take away. Of course, the most interesting thing in the city is the amphitheater. And several tombs that hide in the necropolis. Apart from everything else. Dirt roads and tall uncut bushes give this place a pioneer feel. With proper imagination, you can feel like Indiana. I recommend going with children from 10-14 years old who are interested in archaeology and history. Just before visiting, you should definitely familiarize yourself with the history of the city, otherwise these are dead stones scattered on the mountain

Xanthos was the capital of the Lycian kingdom, which consisted of a union of 7 major cities. A huge amphitheater, tombs and many ruins of ancient buildings around are well preserved. It's breathtaking.

If there is a choice of Xanthus or Flyer, choose Xanthus. But it is difficult to make a choice between Xanthus and Patara, I think that Xanthus is more unique and cooler.

Against the background of other ancient cities, it is rather dull, there are no markings and informative signs, trampled paths through bushes by people. It is not clear at all what the money is being taken for
