Uppsala University Hospital (Akademiska sjukhuset, from the Latin name of the university -Academiae Upsaliensis). A multidisciplinary medical institution that simultaneously serves as a training base for the University's Faculty of Medicine and School of Nursing. It consists of many departments and is a whole hospital town stretching along the Dag Hammarskjold highway. It has about 8,300 employees. Uppsala University holds leading positions in a number of fields of medicine, especially in the field of endocrine oncology. One of the hospital's laboratories houses a cyclotron designed for proton therapy of tumors. (There are only about forty such medical devices in the world.) The hospital has a Bombardier helicopter and aircraft equipped for intensive care.
