One of the greatest historical complexes in Uzbekistan. The complex was build around the mausoleum of the first arab adminstrator in the region. It is of religious and architectural importance.

The whole complex is very interesting! Architectural quintessence captured in stone, wood and mosaic! You can walk all day, looking at all this delicate beauty! The ensemble was founded by the Turks, the Karakhnid dynasty in the 11th century. The mausoleum of the cousin of the Prophet Muhammad, whose name was Kusam ibn Abbas, is located on the territory of the complex. And now the complex is called Shoh-i Zinda - "The Living King". If you are in Samarkand, be sure to visit this magical place! There is also a viewing platform with a beautiful view of the city. I highly recommend you to visit!

It is definitely worth a visit. To touch the centuries-old history and distinctive architecture of Central Asia. And the colorful passages between the mausoleums are a great place for photos (if you can find a gap between the waves of tourists). Ticket 65,000 soums (October 2024) You can get there on foot (15 minutes from the city center), or by bus (№№ 12, 22, 30, 60, 66, 71, 93, 99, 256, M16), the schedule and route of buses from different parts of the city are detailed on Yandex maps or 2Gis. Shahi Zinda ("the living king") is an ensemble of mausoleums with a 25-century history. A stone staircase leads to the tombs, and to find out how sinful you are, you need to count the steps on the way up, and a second time, going back down. If the number matches, there is a chance to go to heaven. The complex of 11 mausoleums was supplemented with new buildings until the 19th century. The king means Qusam ibn Abbas, the cousin of the Prophet Muhammad. Above the entrance there is a panel with the inscription: "The prophet said ... that Al-Qusam ibn al-Abbas is more like me in appearance and character than all people."

The fabulous Shahi-Zinda tomb complex. The burial place of royalty and nobility. The main mausoleum is considered to be the grave of the cousin of the Prophet Muhammad - Qusam ibn Abbas, with a small mosque attached to it. The color scheme of the complex is striking: blue, blue, turquoise and, of course, gold. Majolica tiles, carved mosaics and Arabic script are closely intertwined into a single plot. Each building is unique. The tombs of the Tamerlane sisters are especially beautiful: identical in structure, but completely different in decoration and palette.

An incredibly beautiful architectural ensemble, when visiting, there is a feeling around an oriental fairy tale. The guides are very attentive, they tell in detail, they answer questions interestingly, they fascinate with retelling legends and facts.I highly recommend the place for tourism, It will leave impressions for a long time.It didn't take me 2 hours with a guide to see everything. Therefore, I recommend going back yourself and taking another walk to look into every corner of this ancient architecture.

I definitely recommend it for viewing. We were without a guide, with a guide, I think it's even cooler. The mausoleums are gorgeous, the atmosphere is incredible, and a lot is in the process of restoration, but there's a lot to see. Tickets for foreign citizens are 5 times more expensive

It's a sooo beautiful place when you go inside! Well, it looks beautiful! There is a huge territory inside, on which the buildings are located. And they have rooms in them that are the tombs of important, famous, great people! It costs 75,000 soums. Get ready for a steep staircase! But there is a railing! Such beauty simply freezes you! And also when you realize how old it all is...

The complex is impressive. The ornament is not repeated in any mausoleum. We were in Shahi Zinda at dusk and with the lighting it is magnificent. If possible, visit in the afternoon and evening

One of the most impressive monuments. There is the second Mecca, the place where, according to legend, the cousin of the prophet is located. Each of the buildings is magnificent. Especially in the evening with the lights on.

It is a very beautiful complex. Beautiful mosaics on the walls. There you can walk for a long time, look at the intricate patterns of tiles on different mausoleums inside and outside. We were also told about the opportunity to make a wish (to do this, make a wish at the bottom and then count them while climbing the big steps. After walking through the territory, when you go down, you need to count the steps again and if the number matches, then the wish will come true. As strange as it may sound, not everyone has the same number of steps). I was glad that there was no market inside the territory with clothes and souvenirs, as in other places where we visited.

A city within a city I found myself here on my last day in Samarkand and would have been very sorry if I had completely ignored this place. Must-visit The "architectural ensemble" itself stands on a hill, which adds to the entertainment both from the outside and from the inside.

If you want to get into an oriental fairy tale, then go to Samarkand. Be sure to book a guide, the price is 100 thousand soums, in Russian it is 350 rubles. He will tell you in detail about the tomb. I was in awe of this beauty. 🔥

A place from a fairy tale, 11 mausoleums, unique in no way, do not visit here, do not see historical Samarkand, and you need to start the tour from here, and not end with this amazing place of beauty. The entrance is paid, but it's worth it, there is also a free path through the cemetery from the mosque, you will get into a low wall, step over and you are on the territory, but it is better to contribute to the preservation of a truly historical heritage.

It's a beautiful place. This is in fact the mausoleum of Tamerlane's relatives and confidants. It has been restored relatively recently. Some rooms are still undergoing restoration.

Five stars exclusively for respect for the very place and history of Samarkand. In fact, I was waiting for more, you can get around in 10 minutes, after the Registry you can not compare. The only thing was without a guide. Perhaps it will be much more interesting with a guide. It is definitely worth visiting, but I would probably advise you to start exploring Samarkand, with Shahi Zinda, and not end up like us.

It's beautiful, but this is from a series of photos "expectation is reality" 😂 weekday, morning, and crowds of people - we only met more on the weekend in Timur's mausoleum. With a good guide, of course, it is interesting to hear about the history and about the features of architecture. Be prepared for a steep staircase, especially it is wonderful when descending 🙃

A place of attraction for all tourists! During my 2 days in Samarkand, I visited here twice. The architecture and color combinations are simply breathtaking! These are tombs, but the atmosphere here is somehow not repulsive, but on the contrary, attracts visuals.

The portal and the chortak of Abdul Aziz make a strong impression. This is a rare example of architecture of its time, where the greatness and skill of the architects are felt. Despite the fact that some of the buildings have not been completely preserved, the atmosphere of the place conveys the spirit of old Samarkand. It is especially beautiful here in the evening, when the sun softly illuminates the patterns and arches. It is definitely worth a visit for those who are interested in the history and culture of the city.

Incredibly beautiful architectural ensemble. You should definitely visit. To touch the centuries-old history and distinctive architecture of Central Asia. And the colorful passages between mausoleums are a great place for photos. There are several mosques and mausoleums located here, in which mostly the rulers and relatives of the rulers of several dynasties are buried. There are many visitors, and these are not only tourists, but also believers and pilgrims, since one of the mausoleums was built a thousand years ago to honor a close relative of the Prophet Muhammad (his cousin), and several others belong to the wives of Amir Timur.

I really liked the architectural solutions. Very beautifully made tombs. What I didn't like was the cost of entry. For foreigners 40,000 soums, for their 5,000 soums. We were led by the locals, like we were with them, and it was very pleasant.

It is a very interesting place, a beautiful cemetery, it is a pity that not all visitors understand this. You can look at different elements for hours. Admission is more expensive for tourists than for locals, you can pay with a card.

Like all historical sites and the main attractions of Samarkand, it impresses with its beauty and architecture. There are a lot of tourists, but beautiful photos can be made. It's probably better to visit this place early in the morning or late in the evening! You can take a guide on the spot.

The necropolis on the hillside of Afrosiab is an ancient settlement from which Samarkand grew. I really like this place. I was in Samarkand for the second time and realized that I could not go anywhere for the second time, but I really want to come here. The concentration of patterns and combinations in the color scheme is striking. I've never been on a field trip, by the way. It is the visual that fascinates.
