St. Peter's Church Nicholas (Nikolaikyrkan. The Protestant Church. It was built in the 13th-14th centuries, partially rebuilt at the end of the 19th century. In 1436, the Swedish national hero Engelbrekt Engelbrektsson, the leader of the uprising against Danish rule, was buried in the church. The people considered him a saint and his grave attracted many pilgrims, but it was later destroyed. In 1810, at the Riksdag (meeting of the four estates), French Marshal Jean-Baptiste Bernadotte was proclaimed heir to the throne here.
