Axel Oxenstierna was an outstanding Swedish politician who held the highest state post of Chancellor for an unusually long time - from 1612 to 1654, under King Gustav II Adolf and Queen Christina. Under him, Sweden became a great power in Northern Europe. The monument was erected in the garden of the Knights' House (noble Chamber of the Swedish Parliament) in 1890.
