Palazzo Re Enzo (ital. Palazzo Re Enzo is a famous medieval palace in the heart of Bologna, Italy. It is located on Piazza del Nettuno and is one of the main historical attractions of the city. Main facts: Name and history: The palace was built in 1245 as an extension of the neighboring Palazzo del Podesta. It received its name in honor of King Enzo of Sardinia (son of Emperor Frederick II), who was captured at the Battle of Fossalt in 1249 and spent 23 years in captivity here until his death. Architecture: The building is a classic example of the Italian Gothic style. It is easily recognizable by its characteristic battlements and majestic facade. Modern usage: Today the palace serves as a venue for cultural events, exhibitions, conferences and prestigious receptions.
