Charles XIII was the younger brother of King Gustav III, who ruled from 1809-1818. He went down in history mainly as Admiral General and commander of the Swedish Navy (Karl, Duke of Södermanland), so he wears a laurel wreath on the monument and leans on an anchor. Participated in many naval battles with the Russian navy during the time of Catherine II, but not very successfully. He became king at the end of his life, already being seriously ill (he fell into dementia). As the king had no influence on the government of the country, his adopted son Karl Johan (aka Jean-Baptiste Bernadotte) was in power.
