Having built a madrasah in the early eighteenth century, Shergazi Khan perpetuated his rule through the promotion of education and culture. Tourists are also attracted by its tragic history and legends related to the construction of one of the oldest buildings of the citadel of Ichan-Kala. Nowadays it is an architectural monument, it has four terraces (iwana) in the courtyard, where 55 cells are located. The madrasahs are decorated with patterns, intricate tiles and towering domes. Not only religion was studied here, but also natural sciences, and a museum of the history of medicine was also housed in the madrasa.

This madrasah should recall the reign of Shergazi Khan. It was under this ruler that the Khiva Peter's Campaign was defeated in 1717 under the command of the Russian Prince Alexander Bekovich-Cherkassky. The Russians did not reach Khiva and were unable to subdue the khanate until 1873.
