Everything is great in the Old Town (Icheri Sheher)! Scenes for such famous films as "The Diamond Hand" and "Amphibian Man" were once shot here. Tourists love this place very much, there are many restaurants and cafes in the old town, hotels, embassies of different countries, many museums, for example, the museum of miniature books, the house museum of jazz composer and pianist Vagif Mustafa-zadeh, shops with handmade products, souvenirs and jewelry. This is one of my favorite places in Baku! All these beauties were shown to me by a Russian-speaking guide, Sada Khanum, who has a @baku.authentic page where you can write to her, ask about everything, and book a tour of the Old City and beyond. She tells everything very interestingly and shows unfamiliar places in the city.

The old fortress of Baku. Erected in the 15th century, the palace was the residence of the Shah of Shirvan. The complex consists of the palace where the ruler sat, the divan Khan courtyard, where the shah held meetings with courtiers, the palace mosque with a minaret, the tomb of the Shah, the baths, the mausoleum of the court scientist. Everything is very interesting.

The old city of Baku, surrounded by fortress walls, has several exits. Surprisingly, there are still many residential areas here, along with numerous hotels, restaurants and historical monuments. Walking through the narrow streets of the Old Town is a real feast for the soul. There is an atmosphere of safety and goodwill here, and access to the metro and the city center is just a stone's throw away. In 2000, the Old City, along with the Shirvanshahs' Palace and the Maiden Tower, was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

We decided to spend our week-long vacation in Baku, especially since we have not been to Azerbaijan yet. I was lucky to rent a wonderful apartment in the Old Town, I really wanted to feel the spirit and flavor of this place. We didn't regret it)) Fortress walls, cobblestones, wall-to-wall houses, numerous shops with souvenirs or sweets, aromas of oriental cuisine - all this is like a portal to the past)) Noisy, fun, friendly, sincere, authentic, safe! Someone will say that the Old City is Baku, someone will argue with this, but it's hardly worth arguing with the fact that after visiting Baku for at least one day, you can't pass by. There is no time or desire to look into every corner, buy a ticket to the palace of the Shaki Khans, visit the free miniature book museum or climb the Maiden Tower. For a first acquaintance, it's enough just to walk through the streets, unexpectedly discover a place familiar from an old movie, try to capture the atmosphere of a relaxed holiday at the local baths. And it's amazing that even in these tourist-filled neighborhoods, you can find secluded places where, even for a minute, there won't be a soul.

The living heart of Baku! We stop only here and I advise you to do it) a place where both tourists and locals go, and you live there. That's great! Many hotels to choose from) not to mention restaurants with local cuisine and delicious tea from the samovar. I agree with those who write about the old housing stock without an elevator and possible problems with bathrooms. But these are such little things for a wonderful holiday with the singing of birds from the philharmonic garden, the smell of a wood-burning samovar, the opportunity to walk along the stone paving stones and feel like a rich local Icheri Sheher)) I recommend everyone to visit at least!

Icherisheher or the Old City in Baku. I am currently resting in one of the hotels in this area. The unique atmosphere, narrow streets, the number of attractions is off the scale and Palaces, and mosques, and baths, and the most famous Maiden Tower. There are many restaurants on the territory. It is impossible not to mention the place where the shots from the film "Diamond Hand" were shot and the cafe next to "Damn it". Cozy atmosphere, friendly hosts, delicious cuisine. In the immediate vicinity of the Old City, the main sights of Baku (Primorsky Boulevard, Carpet Museum, parks, Skyscrapers (Flame Towers). I highly recommend to plunge into this atmosphere of the Middle Ages in the 21st century .

The old city of Baku, with a rich history, where the architectural complex of the magnificent Shirvanshahs Palace is located behind the fortress wall, the ancient Maiden Tower, which is a symbol of Baku, the grandiose Shamakhi Gate, ancient caravanserais, where you can still have a snack, as well as many old residential buildings, taverns, hotels, small craft shops, countless the number of souvenir kiosks and other places for tourists to get excited.. Unfortunately, making a profit trumps the desire to preserve the landmark for history. Despite the belonging of Icheri-Sheher to the UNESCO World Heritage Site, show-off cars are rushing along the narrow streets; I have not met such a high density per square meter of Maize anywhere, despite the rather modest average level of the local fleet.

A large shopping center. Beautiful, with a large huge space. We were very pleasantly surprised that there are films in Russian in cinemas. There is a good supermarket at the bottom.
